Wanda Bishop (Lansing)

March 28, 1961 — July 25, 2021

Ms. Wanda Jean Bishop passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Sparrow Health Systems Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 60 years. She was born March 28, 1961, in Gadsden, Alabama, to parents W.C. and Betty Coats, and Cecil and Naioma Wilson

Wanda was a member of Goodsell United Methodist Church in Gadsden, Alabama, under the leadership of Pastor Edward Bonner. She served as a member of the choir. Wanda loved singing praises to God, ushering, and welcoming both members and non-members to the presence of the Lord with a huge smile.

She enjoyed shopping, playing the piano, and cleaning. Wanda was glamorous, with a truly glamorous heart even when her budget would not allow; she would always find a revenue to make it happen. And her lipstick! She was known for always wearing lipstick.

Wanda left a huge impact on everyone she encountered, without even knowing she did so.

Wanda relocated to Lansing, Michigan, in 1992, under the loving care of her biological mother, Betty Ann Bullock. Due to sudden psychological difficulties, Wanda’s life became complicated. Coping with everyday life with these medical and emotional conditions lead to a decline in health.

Wanda loved her daughter and grandchildren in her own special way.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Monica Tara Bishop of Madison, Alabama; grandchildren, Emoni and Christian Bishop of Madison, Alabama; sisters, Teresa (Claude, Jr.) Johnson of Acworth, Georgia, Rita Coats, Sheila Coats, Jeneen Coats, Kresa (Darrell) Landers, and Narkita Coats of Detroit, Michigan; brothers, Wayne (Patricia) Coats of Lansing, Michigan, William (Carolyn) Kyle, and Tyrone Coats of Detroit, Michigan; special nephews, Sheton (Brandy) Coats, Quennil Coats, Livel Banks, Randall (Shanale) Coats, and Vernon Ford of Lansing, Michigan; aunts, Catherine (Hardy) Vaughn, Edmonia Pringle of Millerville, Alabama, and Sue Harris of Sylacauga, Alabama; uncles, Andy Harris and George Harris of Sylacauga, Alabama; brother-in-law, Dewayne McClain of Lansing, Michigan; special love “Thomas”, many nephews, nieces, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by parents, Cecil and Naioma Wilson and W.C. and Betty Coats; brothers, Jeffrey Coats and Joseph Wilson; sisters, Hazel McClain, Devora Coats, and Monique Coats; uncles, Ralph Leonard, John A. Leonard, and Standford Wilson; and aunts, Freedonia Smith and Alice Wilson.
