Mr. Walter Wells of Lansing, Michigan made his heavenly transition on Friday, June 21, 2013 at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital. Age 69 years. Walter was born March 23, 1944 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Joseph and Osceola Wells.
Walter moved to Lansing, Michigan at an early age. He was a graduate of Eastern High School, where he was a member of the wrestling team. Walter accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the usher board for many years. He was employed as a receiving clerk by TRW, INC., and as a mail clerk for the State of Michigan. Walter loved sports, music and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Walter was certified as a corrections officer by the Institute of Merchandising and Design.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 43 years, Peggy Wells; five daughters, Antoinette (Douglas) Branson, Lisa Green both of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Mary McElrath of Smyrna, Tennessee, Tamia (Christopher) Armstrong, Esther Barnes of Lansing, Michigan; eleven grandchildren, Cierra Chambers of Canton, Michigan, Leondre (Ashley) McElrath, Jessica McElrath both of Smyrna,Tennessee, Shaun-Kieth Thomas, Christian Green, Laila Green of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Jaron Bowens of Detroit, Michigan, Mariah Wells, Lexis Wells, Thyral White and Latrina Britt all of Lansing, Michigan; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Charlese Hicks, Ruth (Preston) Bettis of Lansing, Michigan; mother-in-law, Ruth Murry; sister-in-law, Luana (Pasco) Yearby; brother-in-law, Jimmie Murry, Jr. all of Ypsilanti, Michigan; many other relatives and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Osceola Wells, a son, Todd Wells, brothers, J.W. Price, James Wells, and Otis Wells, sisters, Sarah Cash, Roberta Sample and Maggie Wise.
