Ms. Vernida Lulu Hicks was born March 19, 1969 in Saginaw, Michigan to Aquila Hicks and Lawrence Simmons. She went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 20, 2020 at the age of 51 years. We take comfort in knowing she is at peace and safe in the Master’s arms.
Vernida was a graduate of Saginaw High School, “Class of 1987”. She pursued a career in healthcare and was employed at Healthsource of Saginaw for twenty-five years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, listening to music and watching television. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with family, especially her pride and joy, her only grandson, Kaison.
Vernida was a beautiful woman inside and out. She spent her life taking care of the needs of others. She has left us too soon, but she left us with a legacy of love, family and service, and we are grateful that God shared this gift with us for 51 years.
Vernida was preceded in death by her stepmother, Eunice Simmons; grandparents, Austin D. and Carrie Lee Hicks; aunt, Poince Hicks; uncles, Murry Hicks and Robert Simmons.
She leaves precious memories with two sons, Dejuan Nutt, Tristan (Sherakee) Hicks, both of Saginaw, Michigan; parents, Aquila (Arthur Lee) Flinnon, Lawrence Simmons, Saginaw, Michigan; one grandson, Kaison Demetris Lee Nutt; sister, Laurea (Rick) Pruitt, Saginaw, Michigan; brothers, Michael (Chante) Welch, Ralph Simmons, Saginaw, Michigan, Bruce (Miyoshia) Simmons, Cedar Hill, Texas; stepsisters, Twyla Simmons, Faye Abernathy; stepbrother, Larry Abernathy; aunts, Patricia Simmons, Cora Thompson, both of Saginaw, Michigan; uncles, Cecil (Diminick) Pulliam, Grand Rapids, Michigan, William (Celestine) Simmons, Walter Simmons, Earnest Akins, all of Saginaw, Michigan; special niece, Kenyona Harmon-Tillman, Saginaw, Michigan; special nephew, Jason Lamar Porterfield, Dallas, Texas; special cousins, Tiffany Hicks, Shronda Pippins-Simmons, Charlien Flinnon, Alex Beverly, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Trina Hicks Pierre, Marietta, Georgia; godsister, Darlene Brown; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
