Ms. Velmatine Evans departed this earthly life for her Heavenly home on Monday, March 24, 2014 at the age of 71 years. She was born November 17, 1942 in Sallis, Mississippi to George and Betty Evans.
Velma relocated with her family to Saginaw, Michigan in 1971. She loved playing Bingo and the lottery. Velma enjoyed cooking for everyone. She was a mother and grandmother to many. There was never a problem too big or small that she couldnt handle. Velma was well loved by everyone she came in contact with. Gone but never forgotten, her sweet presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Velma (David) Samuels, Barbara Evans, Glenda Evans and Bernadette (Jamaquis) Jones; five sons, Jimmy Dale Evans, Arthur Evans, Freddie Evans, Glynn Evans and Derrick Evans; sixty grandchildren; over fifty great-grandchildren; four sisters, Reathie Harmon and Emma (Joseph) Leavy both of Sallis, Mississippi, Sammie K. Phillips of Kansas and Jeffie Phillips of Kosciusko, Mississippi; three brothers, George Evans Jr. of Iowa City, Iowa, Jerry (Betty) Snow of Sallis, Mississippi and Charles Evans of Chicago, Illinois; many other relatives and friends including her special friends, Melvin Donald, Rosie Davis, Rhodelia Turner, Hattie Steele, June Brooks, Delores Davenport and Linda Beverly.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, George and Betty Evans, grandparents, Albert and Betty Gamble, three sisters, Francis Evans, Alberta and Eva Greer, four brothers, John Allen, Hubert, Clinton and Leroy Evans, one nephew, Christopher Graham, one grand-daughter, Tanisha Evans; two great-grandchildren, Japeriay and Stacy Jr.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of the 6th floor ICU South at St. Marys Of Michigan Medical Center and everyone who offered love, support, kind words and condolences.
