April 23, 1940 — February 23, 2018

On the morning of February 23, 2018 at 12:46 a.m., Velma Lee Wagner passed away peacefully at her residence at the age of 77 years, and went home to be with the Lord. She was born on April 23, 1940 in Liberty, Mississippi to Daniel and Hazel May Tobias.

Velma was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess. She was the oldest member at Mt. Vernon, and was there when the church was organized. Velma cooked breakfast at church every Sunday morning. She enjoyed cooking and going to church. Velma loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend. Velma will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Carl (Alice) McCaskey; six grandchildren, Shundria (Anthony) Vaughn, Lakeya Jackson, Kina McCaskey, Kelvyren McCaskey, Veronica McCaskey, Carla (Robert) Adway, all of Saginaw, Michigan; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Helen Tobias, New Orleans, Louisiana; six brothers, Antoine, Hollis, Huey (Pearline), Calvin (Joan), Lester, Joshua (Betsy) Tobias; one dearly loved godson, Robert (Lillian) Cox; one uncle; many other relatives and friends including nieces, nephews and cousins; one special cousin and stylist, Betty Robertson; two special friends whom she dearly loved, Ruby (Selven) Cox, Georgia (Levern) Showers.
