Thomas Payne

May 30, 1949 — February 14, 2014

Our beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Thomas Lee Payne went home to be with his heavenly father on Friday, February 14, 2014 at his residence. Age 64 years. He was born May 30, 1949 in Millington, Tennessee to Jimmie and Lue Kathern Payne.
Thomas was baptized at an early age at Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Roosevelt Austin Sr. He later became a faithful member of New Covenant Christian Center Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Ron Frierson where he served as a Armor Bearer and was a member of the Covenant Voices until his health failed him. Thomas attended Saginaw Public Schools and was a graduate of Arthur Hill Technical High School. He married Barbara Garcia in 2005. She survives him. Thomas was employed at General Motors Grey Iron and Nodular Plants for 25 years until his retirement. He was also a member of UAW Local 668. Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing and his gun collection.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Barbara Payne; three daughters, Angela Williamson, Catherine (Craig) Ivy, Charlene Carlisle; four sons, Sherman, Chris and Febebby Ray, Father Jimmie (Lorraine) Payne, all of Saginaw, Michigan; two sisters, Margaret Singleton of Phenix City, Alabama and Princetta Payne of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother, Sylvester Payne of Saginaw, Michigan; four stepsisters, Michelle (Roosevelt) Daniels, Freda Wilson, Ingrid Robinson and Tomika Phillips, all of Saginaw, Michigan; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends including his special friends, Hezekiah Thompson, Boyd Overton, Charles Blakes, Tyrone Weston and Shelena Blakes who cared for him during his illness.
Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Lue Kathern Payne, two daughters, Dahana Payne and Elizabeth Garcia, one sister, Gwendolyn Walls.
