Tammy Kay Gonzales (Lansing)

May 7, 1968 — January 9, 2023

“We know that we can’t have you, but we take comfort knowing you’re with Jesus.”

Tammy Gonzales, age 54, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 9, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 7, 1968, in Lansing, Michigan, to Arturo and Gregoria Gonzales.

a stranger to no one and found great purpose in sharing in the successes, joys, and challenges of those around her. She was loved and adored by many in her family, church, and community. Tammy was an advocate for her culture and enjoyed sharing it with others. She attended Latino empowerments, Dia de la Muerte, and Cesar Chavez events yearly; and served in many Cristo Rey activities. Throughout the years, she enjoyed traveling to Florida and Texas, along with living in Boston and Tennessee. She was an active and caring woman who spent most of her life serving others; she used her time productively to focus on many hobbies and projects.

In her later life, she devoted herself to Christ and shared the gospel locally in various community outreaches such as singles, homeless, and children ministries. She was always decorating a room or preparing donations for people in need.

She had a passion for MSU football. The girl bled green and could often be heard cheering (loudly) or pranking Michigan fans during the rival weeks. Tammy also owned one of the most impressive shoe collections (which we still do not have permission to touch). Her laugh, boldness, and unconditional love will always be remembered.

Tammy joins her mother, Gregoria Guadalupe Gonzales; and stepfather, Luciano Patino-Ojeda, in heaven and is survived by her father, Arturo Gonzales (Angie Garcia); brother, Arturo Gonzales; sister, Emily Gonzales; niece, Illiana Gonzales; nephew, Arturo Gonzales; great niece and great nephews, Sanaiyah Gonzales-Eva, Santiago Leija, and Isyas Leija; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, Godchildren, and friends.
