Sterling James Broaden, Jr.

July 8, 1962 — September 8, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Sterling James Broaden, Jr. announce his passing after a brief illness. Sterling, known to all as Larry, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the age of 58 years.

Larry was born in Bronx, New York on July 8, 1962 to Sterling Broaden, Sr. and Iola Simmons. Shortly after his birth, he moved to Saginaw, Michigan with his mother. Destined to be his own boss, Larry started his own shuttle/transportation service in Saginaw. Whether a person had the ability to pay or not, he would get them where they needed to be.

Larry was full of love and life. He was the life of every party. And if it wasn’t a party, he started one up. His big personality and joyous spirit will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Starletta Richardson; parents, Sterling Broaden Sr. and Iola Simmons; brother, Ronald Broaden.

He is survived by four grandchildren, Addison, Za’Nya, Sanaa and Genoa Richardson; sister, Felecia (Tracy) Torrence, Tennessee; siblings, Carylon Hulett, Janice Baldridge, James Willis, Joanne Broaden, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Tangela Broaden, New Orleans, Louisiana; the love of his life, Shaena Pershay and her son,J’Shaun, whom he loved and cared for as his own; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to express special thanks to all their loved ones who has supported them during this difficult time, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
