Shirley Green

July 15, 1933 — November 7, 2013

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Shirley Hayes Green was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the age of 80 years. Shirley was born July 15, 1933 in Braden, Tennessee the twin daughter of Sylvester and Ella B. Hayes.
Shirley Hayes grew to be a beautiful young lady who met and later married Spencer Green Sr. Together they shared 33 years. She accepted Christ at an early age. As a faithful wife and Christian lady, she joined Truevine Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Robert Corley and the current leadership of Pastor Paul E. Broaddus. She was a faithful member until failing health. Shirley worked for Saginaw Steering Gear and was a member of UAW Local 699 for 20 years. She retired in August of 1996. Shirley was a kind hearted, caring, spirited and loving person. She always had an open door for everyone. Shirley loved to cook, especially during the holidays or family gatherings. She enjoyed spending time with her neighborhood kids whom all affectionately called her Momma Green. Shirley enjoyed playing cards, bingo, going to the casino and spending time with her friends. Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her precious memory will always be forever cherish by her children, Spencer Jr. (Shawn) Green, Dianne Green, McCoy Lee (Laura) Green, Patricia (Emmitt) Jones, Fanny Green-Pierson, Robert Bernard (Tammy) Green and Darliane (Spencer) Blackmon, all of Saginaw, Michigan; one brother, Robert Hayes of Saginaw, Michigan; one aunt, Beatrice Rockette of Buffalo, New York; one sister-in-law, Abby Lee Smith of Detroit, Michigan; twenty-one grandchildren, Alesia, Spencer III (Teresa), Shawntrell, Tiffany, Tasha, McCoy Jr., Tameshia, Kaylee, Latricia, Reggie, Kevin, Kenny, Kadeem (Ashley), Raven, Valorie (Jonathan), Edward Pierson Sr., LaCretia, LaTashia, Jaquasha, Spencer Blackmon Jr. and Spentrina; twenty-one great-grandchildren; a special ex-son-in-law, Pastor Edward Pierson Jr.; godchildren, Vicky Rico, Glenda Simon and Reggie Choyce; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Betty Holiday, Willie (Raymon) Thomas, Daniel Montrel and her neighborhood friends from 25th, 26th and 27th streets.
Those awaiting her arrival in Heaven include her husband, Spencer Green Sr., parents, Sylvester and Ella Hayes, several brothers and sisters including Thomas Hayes, Henry Hayes, Willie Hayes, Chester Hayes, Charlie Hayes, A.D., May Lou Westbrook, Albert Hayes, Pearlie Crenshaw and Ruby Nell Hayes, mother-in-law, Fanny Green, father-in-law, Albert Green Sr., two brothers-in-law, Emerson Crenshaw Jr. and Albert Green, aunts, and uncles, Plummie Williams, May Lou Westbrook, Callie Billingsley and Harry Hayes, one stepson, Pastor James Hester.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to everyone who offered kind words and condolences to us during our time of bereavement.
