Sheila Smith (Virginia)

December 22, 1968 — August 29, 2020

Sheila Yevette Smith was born December 22,1968 in Lansing, Michigan to Gertrude Wilkerson-Smith and Earl Smith Sr. Sheila was the first born out of six, and in her true decision-making form, constantly reminded the others that she was the oldest. She loved her family and friends and gave everyone around her a nickname. Sheila was known for her love of the University of Michigan “Go Blue!”, and cheering on her favorite football team, The Green Bay Packers.

Sheila graduated from J.W. Sexton High School and attended classes at Lansing Community College. She was generous and sacrificing, qualities that were visibly evident in how she lived and parented. There was nothing more exciting and abundant about life to Sheila than the gift of motherhood. A blessing she experienced five times over. She was a selfless provider to her children. It was this display of selflessness that guided her decision to leave Lansing and relocate to Virginia in 2011. In moving to Virginia, she saw the possibility of providing a more stable environment for her children, while securing better professional opportunities for herself. For the past nine years, Sheila enjoyed her job as a Special Police Officer with Security Assurance Management.

Sheila was a loving and trusted friend who was there to answer your call whenever needed. You could count on her for insightful, straight forward, and honest feedback on any topic raised in conversation. Sheila was a loyal confidant who would fearlessly protect those in her friendship circle. She treasured time with family and friends and took great pride in planning travel getaways to celebrate momentous occasions. One of her greatest attributes was her ability to give and put others before herself. She enjoyed seeing the smiles and joy her gifts generated in other’s lives.

Sheila always had a smile on her face and was always seen in Maize and Blue. She enjoyed watching sports, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Although she was not a drinker she enjoyed her Apple Martini “shaken not stirred” or her cup of Sprite. Sheila loved her grandchildren and was never seen without one of them on her many trips to Michigan. Sheila made sure she would visit her Mount Vernon gang on each visit and made sure she didn’t miss any important family events. Sheila aka Molliesue will be missed by so many family and friends.

Sheila left her earthly home on Saturday, August 29, 2020.
