Sally M. Askew

March 13, 1944 — February 25, 2020

Our beloved Sally M. Askew was born March 13, 1944 in Opelika, Alabama to Lorenzo and Evelyn Collins. She passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the age of 75 years.

Sally was a graduate of Bay City Central. She married Thomas L. Askew and four children were born of this union. Sally was a faithful member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church for over 37 years. She served as the church secretary and overseer of the kitchen.

Sally’s hobbies included listening to gospel music, watching the cooking channel, court and game shows and “her stories.” She loved cooking big family meals and dishes requested by loved ones. Above all, Sally enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a very protective mother who would fight, fast and pray relentlessly for her children. Mrs. Askew was outspoken and didn’t mix words with anyone. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sally was preceded in death by her son, Lawrence L. Askew; mother, Lola Williams; sister, Carrie Williams; brother, Willis Williams.

She leaves precious memories with her husband, Thomas L. Askew, Sr.; three children, Carrie F. Askew, Thomas L. Askew, Jr., both of Saginaw, Michigan, Jill (Leon) Beemon, Stockbridge, Georgia; stepchildren, Denise Nickleberry, Tonya Jones, Sherri Ragland, Toni Wise, Cheryle Daniels; grandsons, Robert and Shondell Askew, Thomas Askew, III, Lawrence Askew-Mayes, Douglas Askew, Michael Oglesby, Torrey and Corey Rhodes; granddaughters, Kayla Green, Shaquarra Askew-Feagin, Taniqua McClain, Tamia Jones and De’Sha Beemon; brothers, George (Bernice) Williams, Reverend John L.
