Mr. Rufus E. Hawkins (Charlie) passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Saginaw Senior Care and Rehabilitation Facility. Age 79 years. He was born February 28, 1932 in Cherokee, Alabama to James R. and Louvenia Hawkins.
Charlie was educated at Cherokee High School. As a resident of Saginaw, Michigan, Charlie was a lover of God and displayed this by loving people and specializing in telling of Gods goodness. He was a faithful member at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Chevrolet Grey Iron in 1977 and was a member of UAW Local 668. He enjoyed reading the Bible, cooking and gardening. He watched all sports but baseball was his favorite.
Rufus leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Reatha Mae Hawkins; five children, Sharlotte Green Winkie, Sheri Lynn Hawkins, Karolyn Kay Hawkins, Jeri J. Rockett, Edie A. Mitchell; 19 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Marion) McKee, Redford, MI, Donella (Johnnie) Brown, Saginaw, MI; sisters-in-law, Barbara Doherty, Salt Lake City, UT, Delta Hawkins, Mary Hawkins Ramsey both of Saginaw, MI, Lula Hawkins, Pauline Hawkins Williams both of Detroit, MI;
brothers-in-law, John Doherty, Johnnie Brown, Marion McKee; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including one special cousin, Howard Thompson, Detroit, MI; special friends, Arthur Washington, Everett Tony, James Wright, Johnnie Brown and Oscar Williams.
Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; 3 sisters; 3 nephews; and one great nephew.
