Ruby Mae Norris (Lansing)

January 18, 1945 — June 19, 2015

Ms. Ruby Mae Norris peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the age of 70 years. She was born the third of eleven children on January 19, 1945 to the late James and Christine Smith.
Our beloved Ruby accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a 1964 graduate of Delta Center High School in Walls, Mississippi. Ruby relocated to Lansing, Michigan in 1965. On July 3, 1976, she joined Jimmy Lee Norris in holy matrimony. He survives her. In 1980, Ruby became a member of Mount Zion Church and absolutely loved singing in the choir. Most of all, Ruby loved going to church to praise God with her little sisters, Leona and Ardell. Whenever you saw one sister you knew the others were close by. Ruby retired from Michigan State University after 30 years of dedicated service. She was an extremely devoted, caring and loving wife. Ruby was a giver who enjoyed cooking large meals where everyone was welcomed. She loved all of her family, but her grandchildren were especially dear to her heart. Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ruby leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, Jimmy L. Norris; one son, Mark Alexander; one daughter, Kim Alexander; grandchildren, Michael Franklin, Mahkari Franklin and Daymia Morrell; two great-grandchildren, Cardell Jr. and Aniyah Allen; three brothers, Joseph (Sharon) Smith, James Smith and Levon (Lawonder) Smith, all of Memphis, Tennessee; four sisters, Dolly (Trainer) Kern and Bell (Al) Smith, both of Memphis, Tennessee, Leona (Burhan) Thabit, Ardell (Michael) Bradley, both of Lansing, Michigan; her in-laws, Rosetta (Smokey) Ishmel, Polle (Howard) Davenport and Loretta Norris; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including her special nieces, Ebony (Jwan) Randle of Mason, Michigan and Glenda Fay Jones of Memphis, Tennessee; many other relatives and friends including her special friends, Sheri Hurd, Patricia Davis and Alice (Park) Thomas.
Our darling mother, sister, aunt and friend was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy L. Norris, father, James Smith, mother, Christine Smith, two sisters, Glendell Jones and Lillie M. Moss, one brother, Archie Lee Smith.
The family wishes to express special thanks to our many friends for every expression of kindness extended to us during this time of sorrow.
