Roland Lee Demps (Lansing)

Mr. Roland Lee Demps transition to the Lord on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Holt Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center in Holt, Michigan, at the age of 67 years. He is the son of Reverend Robert and Geraldine Demps, who was born on March 30, 1954, in Lansing, Michigan.

Roland spent his entire life in Lansing, Michigan, where he was educated in the Lansing School District. He graduated from Lansing Everett High School.  Roland attended Lansing Community College, majoring in Commercial Art. He was employed by General Motors Corporation and the City of Lansing. Roland accepted Christ at an early age and spent his life as a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He loved the church and he especially enjoyed riding the lawnmower in the back 40.

Roland loved going to the gym and playing basketball. His favorite spectator sport was boxing, especially watching Muhammed Ali. Growing up, Roland loved watching old cowboy movies with his Dad.  One of his favorite past times was his art. On many occasions, you could find him sitting at his easel or at his desk with a sketch pad. He also loved working with stained glass.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of over 40 years, Zeferonia “Doll” Demps; favorite daughter, Catherine (Ralph) Douglas of Houston, Texas; 6 sisters, Lois Demps and Wambui Demps, Geraldine Demps, Juliette Demps, Margaret Demps all of Lansing, Michigan, and Cathy (John) Caffey of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; 3 brothers, David (Deborah) Demps of Detroit Michigan, Michael (Melissa) Demps and Wesley Demps, Sr. both of Lansing, Michigan; special sisters-and brothers-in-law, Ann (Herman) Beard of Lansing, Michigan, Mae Willie Sankey and Patricia Sankey both of Grady, Alabama and Annie (Vernor) Merritt of Dothan, Alabama; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Robert and Deaconess Geraldine Demps; sister, Michelle Demps; and brother, Robert Demps, Jr.
