Phyllis Ann Smith

Mrs. Phyllis A. Smith went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at St. Mary’s of Michigan-Saginaw. Age 66 years. She was born to Edward Taylor, Sr., and Vera Lee Thomas on November 28, 1950 in Sicily Island, Louisiana.

Mrs. Smith, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. She was a faithful member of Gideon Christ Community Church where she served as First Mother under the leadership of Pastor Chet Atkins. Phyllis retired from retail in 1995, later furthering her education and graduating from Delta College in 2015 with a major in Social Work and minor in Criminal Justice. She loved gardening, sewing and spending quality time with family and friends as well as cooking for them with a passion. Phyllis touched everyone with her compassionate heart and smile. She will be missed by family and friends who loved her dearly.

Phyllis leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband, Alga Smith, Jr.; one daughter, Felicia Thomas; four sons, Sergio (Shannon) Thomas, Grand Blanc, Michigan, Alga Smith, III, Anquonn Smith, and Ervin Smith, of Saginaw, Michigan; eighteen grandchildren, Levunte Thomas, Alga Smith, IV, Mei Asia Smith, Aquavious Head, Honesty Smith, Destiny Jones-Smith, Camari Jones-Smith, Emani Jones-Smith, Jamareon Henton, Sir Real Smith, Imagi Smith, Sergio Thomas, Jr., Sydney Thomas, Taivion Garrett, Octavia Head, Antoinio Jackson, Romelo Ellis, and Hannah Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Londyn Thomas, Melody Smith and Kaleah Griffin; five sisters, Emma Jean (David) Thompson, Orange, Texas, Venolian Jackson, and Antinella Jackson of Saginaw, Michigan, Stephanie Taylor, Los Angeles, California, and Barbara Henry, Lake Charles, Louisiana; eight brothers, Calvin Thomas, Joseph (Demetria) Jackson, Michael Jackson, Benard Jackson, Gary Taylor, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Edward Taylor, Jr., North Carolina, Bobbi (Sue), and Lee (Michelle) Johnson, New Orleans, Louisiana; mother-in-law, Berda Lee Davis, Saginaw, Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Marquietta Davis, and Yolanda (Eugene) McGee, Saginaw, Michigan; one brother-in-law, Grover Lee Davis, III, Saginaw, Michigan; extended family, Paul Solomon and Pauline Jones; god-children, Kyla McNair, Marlena Wells, and Nastarsha Sangster; special friends, Gloria Jean Carradine, Monroe, Louisiana, Eloise Wilson, Chicago, Illinois, Barbara Johnson, Columbus, Ohio, Eleanor Humphrey, Saginaw, Michigan, Robert (Peggy) White, Al (Fannie) Snell, Ernest (Marlean) Williams, both of Flint, Michigan; many special cousins, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and a special uncle, Roger Taylor, Sr., Saginaw, Michigan.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Taylor, Sr., and Vera Jackson; grandparents, Lillie E. and Eddie Thomas, Sr.; sister, Constance Jackson; father-in-law, Grover Lee Davis, Jr.; sister-in-law, Teveldia Lyle; brothers-in-law, Reed Ervin Smith and Timothy Surles.
