Ottis Stanton

October 21, 1936 — June 3, 2019

Mr. Ottis Stanton was born October 21, 1936 in Panola, Alabama to Ruby and Gus Stanton. He passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 at his residence at the blessed age of 82 years.

On November 26, 1958, Ottis married his sweetheart and best friend, Josephine Little. In 1963 they moved to Saginaw, Michigan, where Ottis was hired at the General Motors Corporation Grey Iron Foundry. He worked as a grinder, assembly line worker and parts inspector for thirty-two years. He was able to retire in 1995 after thirty-two dedicated years on the job. After retirement, his job was keeping his Cadillac clean and sitting on the porch enjoying the sunshine while watching cars go by.

Ottis studied the bible with Jehovah Witness and was baptized into their faith in the late 1990s. He was a faithful servant until his health declined.

Ottis was a sharp dresser. He loved looking nice, dressing up and wearing nice shoes. His hats and suits were all quality material. He also enjoyed music, playing his harmonica and guitar, and listening to the blues.

More than anything, Ottis loved his family very much. He had a special place in his heart for his grands and great-grands. He enjoyed teaching them life lessons, morals and instilling values in them.

Ottis was preceded in death by his son, Terry Stanton; parents, Ruby and Gus Stanton; sister, Virginia Newton; brothers, Clyde, Leslie and Augustus Stanton.

He leaves to celebrate his life his loving wife of sixty years, Josephine Stanton; children, Joann Hayes, Patricia (Milton) Southern, Melissa, Perry, Larry Stanton; grandchildren, Tyson and Diamond Phillips, Donisha (James) Maxey, Tiera Hayes, Marshall Hairston, Delmont Redeemer, Rodrick Jackson, Jamario, Shamika, Deshawn, Terrianna, Tamietra, Lonell Stanton, Shelby Ormsbee, Tiffany and Michael Branch; twenty-five great-grandchildren; sisters, Tency Hill, Annie Peoples; brothers, Ellis, Henry (Gloria), Fred, Ivory (Ann) Stanton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to express special thanks to Samaritas Senior Living Center, Covenant Healthcare, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
