Ollie Pritchett

September 20, 1932 — December 13, 2019

Mrs. Ollie Mae Pritchett was born September 20, 1932 in Union Springs, Alabama, the only child of Aldorpha and Alice Germany. She received her crown on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the well lived age of 87 years.

At the age of 13, Mother Pritchett recognized her gift for styling hair and that was something she continued in her spare time. In 1951, she married Robert Pritchett. To this blessed union, four children were born, Loretta, Luella, Robert and Ollie.

Mother Pritchett accepted Christ at an early age and never lost her zeal for God. In Saginaw, she first joined Mount Nebo Baptist Church where she was the choir director and on the mother’s board. Mother Pritchett united with Greater Williams Temple in 1976 and worked in the kitchen as Vice-President of Young Women Christian Council, where she often gave her testimony and encouraged others to seek God’s face.

Born during the Jim Crow era of segregation, Mother Pritchett was no stranger to surviving in adverse situations. She was a freedom fighter in her own way, choosing to participate in the Montgomery Bus Boycott along with Rosa Parks and many others. In her professional career, she worked at four hospitals and two nursing homes, caring for those who needed assistance. She also worked at five schools in the Saginaw area before retiring at age 62.

Words can’t describe how much of a blessing Mother was to our family. To say she will be missed is an understatement. Yet, we thank God for this precious gift He gave us for 87 years. We are grateful for her life and will will carry on her legacy.

Mother Pritchett was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pritchett; son, Robert Louis Pritchett; parents, Aldorpha and Alice Germany; goddaughter, Artisher Smith.

She leaves a lifetime of memories with her three daughters, Loretta (Virgil) Lyons, Luella (Clyde) Hopkins, Ollie White; two stepchildren; grandchildren, Vatrein (Danielle) Cordvae, Sidney Hopkins, Larry Russell Jr., Karein Russell, She’Ree (Deshun) Downes, Vermaries (Germaine) Simmons, Terrance Russell, Valon Lyons; seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; cousins, Pauline Murry, Ola Ray, Franklin Medlock; many other relatives and friends including special friends Mattie Weaver, Ray-Carl Smith, Mother Gaines, Mary Ross, Rose Robinson, Elder James Weston, Pastor Arthur Akins and the Greater Williams Temple Church Family.

The family would like to express special thanks to Covenant Harrison nurses in ICU, Lauren and Cre, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
