Obituary for Minnie Dorsett

Minnie Lee Dorsett was born December 12, 1932 in Memphis, Tennessee to Marie Walker and Walter Black. The good Lord came down and blessed our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother with her wings on Saturday, October 20, 2018. It was time for her to return to her mansion in heaven.

At the tender age of ten years old, Minnie moved to Saginaw, Michigan with her family. In 1975, she received her General Education Diploma. She had many choices of a career but she opted to be a stay-at-home mother. She wanted to be hands-on in raising and educating her children.

After her children grew up, Minnie became a businesswoman and entrepreneur. She had a mini coffee shop, consignment shop and owned several rental properties. As with everything she did, her businesses were ran with professionalism, grace, dignity and class.

Her children describe her as a top five problem solver. There was never a dilemma she could not figure out and repair. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grands fiercely, as only a mother can. Her wise counsel and calming spirit will truly be missed but the lessons she taught will live on through her family forever.

On Saturday, October 20, 2018, Minnie returned home and joined her husband, Leonard C. Dorsett; mother and stepfather, Smith and Marie McClain; daughters, Renee M., Deborah W. Abernathy; sons, Warren C. Abernathy, Jahmal, Audrey Dorsett; grandparents, Lott and Minnie Shaw; grandson, Walter Harvey.

She leaves to continue her legacy three daughters, Cynthia Lynne Abernathy, Antonetta D. More, Natalie R. Jackson; three sons, Ronald E. Williams, Walter T., Clarence A. Abernathy; twenty-five grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends including special friends Callie Brooks-Hillard and Janie McGee, whom she grew up with like sisters. They all reunited in Heaven this year.

The family would like to express special thanks to Great Lakes Rehab, Reverence Hospice, especially Karen Gooden and Kenyatta, nurses who helped our mother in her time of need, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
