Michael Carter

Mr. Michael Carter passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. Age 63 years. He was born September 29, 1960, in Louisville, Mississippi, to Katie Lee Carter and R. C. Tripplett.


Michael, a resident of Saginaw, Michigan, where he attended Saginaw Public Schools. He was the epitome of a family man, a protector, provider, who taught and led by example; he was affectionately known as “Papa, Uncle Mike, and MC.” Michael enjoyed going to church, cooking, bowling, music, watching the news, and doing yardwork. He was a bright light in any room, and he never met a stranger (Ephesians 5:25). Michael loved his wife as Christ loved the Church. He recieved Christ at an early age. He was a member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Otis Washington. Michael was employed as the manager of Shorthorn Meat Market for 23 years, and was Stock Manager at Kroger.


He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Laura Carter; three daughters, LaTonya Bingham, Michelle (Jesse) Whitener, and NaTasha (Geron) Johnson; one son, Marcell Jones; grandchildren, Jordan Bingham, Justin McElroy, JerMichael McElroy, Jayda Jones. Kendall Smartt, Mariah Smartt; great-grandchildren, Za’Riah, and Za’Carii Emerson; stepmother, Mattie Tripplett; sisters, Bonnie Carter, Arrie Lawson, Hannah Carter, and Mae (Tommy) Hannah; one brother, Larry Carter; thirteen nieces, Anne (James) Jones, Pamela Carter, Barbara Logan, Veronica (Greg) Coleman, Sandra Bradley, Audra (Romar) Johnson, Patrice Allen, Sharon Green, Janet (Edward) Simmons, Sharon Mackie, Karla Austin (Leslie) Field; a host of nephews, including Torry Green, Marcel Colwye, Larry Allen, Marcus Webb, Tavarus Mackie, and Samuel Lawson Jr.; two aunts, Dorothy Gleaton, and Vernice Killebrew; a host of cousins including special cousins, Frank and Purvis Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Johnny) Green, and Diane Johnson; two brothers-in-law, Larry Mackie, and Calvin Jones; many other relatives and friends including, Debra Tyson, Ray Ward, Houston Roberson, Marie Miller, Jerome Miller, Kareem, Patrick, and Linda Smartt, and Will Monroe.


Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Calvin and Millie Carter; parents, R.C. Triplett, and Katie Carter; siblings, Bonnie Logan, Bobby W. Carter, and Bobbie G. Carter; brother-in-law, Samuel Lawson, Sr.; aunts, Mary Jane Carter, Iris Brown, Sadie Carter; uncles, James Carter, Wendell Carter, Quinton Carter; cousin, Waldine Bates, and great nephews, Dezi Henderson Jr., Jacob Gaines, and Maurice Williams.
