Mattie Louise Thomas passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at Saginaw Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center. Age 89 years. She was born October 15, 1925 in Aliceville, Alabama to Lovel Salmond and Sam Crim Sr.
Mattie was affectionately known as Sister. Along with her husband, Virgil Thomas, Mattie was a seasoned traveler. Her husband served with the United States Army which allowed them to live and visit some of the worlds most exciting places. Places like Fairbanks, Alaska and Okinawa, Japan, just to name a few. She loved gardening and her beloved Remington Street neighborhood. Many of her neighbors will miss her colorful front yard.
She leaves to celebrate her legacy one dear cousin, Jerry Salmond, of Fort Worth,Texas; her god-daughter, Phyllis Thorne, of Saginaw, Michigan; god-granddaughters Sheri (Carey) Butterfield and Quela Miller; god-grandson, Bryant (Deborah) Miller; god-great-grandchildren Bryant Miller II, Brandon and Brent Miller, Courtney and Kennedy Butterfield, Tiara Pollard, Tarrence Crumpton and Charles Peterson II; a very special friend, Vivian Davis and her family, and her Rosehill Baptist Church family.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Thomas, parents, Lovel Salmond and Sam Crim Sr, two brothers, Sam Jr. and George Crim, aunt, Burlue Hoosier Money, nephews, Booker T. Salmond and John Crim.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Pastor Murry Culberson and the Rosehill Baptist Church family, Shirley Williams, Patricia McCulley, Shirley Smith and Rosie Washington for your labor of love. God bless and thank you all for going the extra mile.
