Mattie Lee Sanders

March 4, 1936 — March 18, 2015

On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, the angels descended upon the earth to carry Ms. Mattie Lee Sanders to her eternal place in Heaven. Age 79 years. She was born March 4, 1936 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Jimmie D. and Jessie Lee Johnson-Sanders.
In her childhood years, she relocated with her family to Flint, Michigan and later to Saginaw, Michigan. She attended Potter Elementary School, Central Junior High School and was a 1954 graduate of Saginaw High School. Mattie was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear, now known as Nexteer Automotive, and was a member of UAW Local 699. She retired after 30.3 years of faithful service. While raising three children, she did volunteer work for the Saginaw Public Schools Kindergarten Program. She was a member of New Galilee Full Gospel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Luciose Lewis until her health began to fail. Mattie was a quiet person and was also a true friend. She would take a secret to her grave which is why she had many friends until the end. Matties favorite color was lavender. She loved her family and she enjoyed spending time with them. Her beautiful spirit and presence will be truly missed by all who loved and adored her.
She leaves to celebrate her legacy two daughters, Jamie D. (Raymond) Sanders-Hicks and Shelley J. (Bobby) Sanders-Hill both of Saginaw, Michigan; one son, Jesse Lee Sanders of Richmond, Virginia; the father of her children, Kenneth K.D. McKinnon Sr.; four stepchildren, Ginger L. (Danny) McKinnon-Winbush, Cathy Graves, Kenneth and Jeffery McKinnon; seven grandchildren, Charles L. Harris Sr., Martel T. Harris Sr., Trushone K. Harris, Desiree N. (Derike) Harris-Murrell all of Saginaw, Michigan, Latasha D. Watson of Atlanta, Georgia, Yamicka D. (Christopher) Sanders-McGee of Saginaw, Michigan, and Jessica B. Sanders of Richmond, Virginia; twenty-four great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren; eight cousins, Michael J. Mason of Saginaw, Michigan, Dr. Carl Alfred and Sandra Keene both of California, Nancy Taylor Williams, Katherine, Josephine, Tommie and Nathaniel Spike Taylor all of Lansing, Michigan; one goddaughter, Doloris Mixon; many other relatives and friends including her special friends, Shirley and Valerie Robinson, Gloria Woodard, Lorraine Kat Miller, Loretta King, Brigetta Gibbs, Ernestine Howell, Parker C. Bates, Shirley Barkley, Earleen McKnight, Barbara McKinnon and Nell Rose Kelly.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Jessie Johnson-Sanders, stepmother, Marcedus Keene Sanders, grandmother, Emma Taylor, one aunt, Sarah A. Jones, two cousins, Jessie Mae Taylor and Curtis Speed Taylor, and special friends, Fannie Hinton, Lionel Simmons, Nelly Archibald, Tom Hall, LeVoy Daniel, Beverly Lewis Noel and Betty King.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Vijay Chaku, Dr. Carlos Diola, Dr. James Culver, Dr. Charles Borchard, Dr. Paul Kocheril, the 7th floor main nursing staff of Covenant Healthcare-Harrison, nurses Heather and Ashley and Jodi Webb, LMSW, of Covenant Healthcare Rehabilitation, Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
