On Saturday, December 12, 2015 Mother Mary L. Walker affectionately known as Big Ma peacefully made the transition to her eternal home at the age of 90 years. She was born August 8, 1925 in Byhalia, Mississippi to the late Ned and Nancy Richmond.
Upon moving to Memphis, Tennessee as a young lady, Mary worked at a dry cleaner. While living with her stepmother, Ms. Julie she learned the culinary skills for cooking and baking. Mary was also instrumental in raising her three nieces.
In 1948 she met and married the late Mr. King L. Walker. From this union four children were born. They relocated to Saginaw, Michigan in 1953 where Mr. Walker was gainfully employed at Saginaw Grey Iron Foundry. While being a wife and mother, Mother Walker accepted employment as a housekeeper.
In 1954, under the leadership of Pastor W.K. Moore she joined All Nations Prayer Tower COGIC. Upon Pastor Moores she continued to serve under the leadership of Pastor Louis Bishop where she served as President of the Usher Board, President of the Pastors Aide and served on the Mothers Board. Mother enjoyed cooking and serving others. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son and three daughters, Larry E. Walker of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mary (Weldon) Lee, Linda (Ras) Marselis and Pamela (Ronald) Sheppard all of Saginaw, Michigan; grandchildren, Jerome, LaToya, Terrell, Ronald, Jeremy, Roniesha, Donielle, Summer, Shaleece, Jordon, Darquatius, Kia, Chantel and Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Jasime, Jhania and Jerome Buckley, Elijah and Trinity Sheppard; nieces, Juanita, Hazel and Cassandra Todd; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Rosemarie Myles, Betty Haynes, Bobbie Williams, Julia Moore, Ennie Pearson, Nell Gibson, Mother Eddie Weston and the Garner family.
Mother Mary L. Walker was preceded in death by her spouse, Mr. King D. Walker, sisters, Lottie Todd, Vella Shipp and Gladyes Bufford.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to everyone who offered condolences and prayers.
