Martha Hopkins Mcgruder Cager (Lansing)

Ms. Martha L. Hopkins McGruder passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020, in Lansing, Michigan. Age 85 years. She was born May 15, 1935, in Hot Springs, Arkansas to John Washington and Elizabeth Hopkins. Martha was a resident of Lansing, Michigan for 82 years of her life. She married Robert L. McGruder on November 19, 1952, and to this union, six children were born, Robert "Louie", Antoinette "Toni", Patricia, Gloria, William "Bryan" and Mary.

Martha was well known for being sassy, sharp, and foxy, with a great big personality! She loved to cook, and loved that her family loved her cooking. Martha worked for 30 years for the well-known Dr. William Harrison as his Receptionist/Assistant.

She leaves to mourn her loss, but to cherish many sweet memories; her loving and devoted children, Antoinette (Arthur) Calhoun of Antioch, Tennessee, Patricia Sue McGruder, Gloria (Odell) McGruder-Goldman, Bryan (Roberta) McGruder all of Lansing, Michigan, Mary E. McGruder McElrath of Smyrna, Tennessee; 18 grandchildren, Autumn "T" Bellamy, Omni (Justin) Bulthuis both of Oak Harbor, Washington, Autumn (Alex) Smith of Lansing, Michigan, Chatum Taylor of Lansing, Michigan, Danielle Robinson of Lombard, Florida, Brandi (Shatoan} Coates of Lansing, Michigan Sherika McGruder of Lansing, Michigan, Ransom Robinson of Lansing, Michigan Maurice (MaTrendia) Calhoun of Lascassas, Tennessee, Andrew (Nichole) Calhoun of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, Le'Ondre (Ashley) McElrath of Lavergne, Tennessee, Jessica McElrath of Smyrna, Tennessee, Stacie (Kareem) Wallace McGruder of Walker, Michigan, Yemora Williams, Richard, Heather, Amanda, Brooke all of Lansing, Michigan, Kelsey Gilbert of Lansing, Michigan; 35 great grandchildren; Siblings: Wilkie (Patricia) Hopkins of Orlando, Florida and Sam (Deanna) Hopkins of Lansing, Michigan; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, many other relatives including special daughters, Phoebe Wiggins Holston and Sarah McGruder, and friends, including special sister-friend of many years, Helen Williams.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sherman Bennett; sisters, Juanita Simmons, Mabel White, and Kathryn Lois Austin; sons, Elmo Williams, and Robert "Louie" McGruder .
