Madelyn Walker (Lansing)

Ms. Madelyn S. Walker passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. Age 67 years. She was born December 12, 1949 to Earl Virtee and Ruth Hager Walker in Richmond, Indiana.

Madelyn matriculated through Richmond Community Schools and graduated from Richmond High School in 1968. Shortly after graduation, Madelyn married Gerald Williams and to this union three children were born: Karen Yvette, Melissa Nicole, and Jerilyn Denise.

Madelyn and her family relocated to Lansing, Michigan in 1974. She was employed by the State of Michigan for many years and took a medical retirement in 1996. Madelyn, or as her girls affectionately called her "Mommy", loved the Lord and her family more than anything else. She was completely selfless with her time, resources, and love when it came to her family. In 2008, when her parents' health began to decline, Madelyn moved back to Richmond to care for them until their deaths in 2012 and 2014. During this 6-year period of time, Madelyn endured several significant health challenges, but she prioritized her parents' health and needs over her own. This is merely a single example of Madelyn's dedication and selfless commitment to her loved ones.

Madelyn enjoyed traveling, shopping, helping those in need, spending time with friends and family, and working in the church. She leaves a lasting legacy of kindness, honesty, integrity, humility, goodness, compassion, faith, and love to all those who were fortunate enough to make her acquaintance. Although we are saddened by her passing, we thank God for the end of her temporal suffering, and we await the day of our Lord's return at which time our Dear Mother's health will be completely restored, we will reunite with our loved ones, and reside with Christ in Heaven for eternity. This is our blessed HOPE!

She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Karen Williams (Rodney) Garner, Melissa and Jerilyn Williams; three grandchildren, Ayanha Qawwee, Bryce Davis, and Braxton Brown; two brothers, Curtis (Jacqueline) Walker and Russell (Mallorie) Walker; sister-in-law Francis Walker; special daughter, Roshawn Harris, special cousin/sister Glenda Potter Brathwaite; special friend/sister Teresa Jackson; special cousin Lucille Bryant; and many other family and friends.

Madelyn was preceded in death by her parents Virtee and Ruth Walker and her oldest brother, Jack Walker.
