Louis Westbrook (Lansing)

March 25, 1940 — July 18, 2018

Mr. Louis Alvin Westbrook passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at his residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 78 years. He was born March 25, 1940 in Hickman, Kentucky. The fourth of eleven children born to Walvy Sr. and Nancy (Smith) Westbrook.

As a boy, Louis attended Riverview School until his departure to begin working. Louis worked various jobs during this time. In 1961 he married and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Fort Campbell, Kentucky and completed a two-year tour of duty in Germany. Upon his return to the United States, he relocated to Lansing, Michigan and became employed with General Motors Corporation. Throughout the years he took several courses at Lansing Community College in the areas of business and labor. After thirty years of service at General Motors Corporation, Mr. Westbrook retired as head supervisor in the quality control department.

Listening to blues and jazz, traveling and fishing were some of his favorite past times. An avid golfer, he golfed weekly until his health began to decline. He loved spending time with his family, sharing stories and knowledge. Louis worked hard and was a great provider for his family. His easy-going personality and infectious smile will be missed by all.

Left to celebrate his life are his children, Donna Brown and Danny Westbrook of Lansing, Michigan; Tonya Avery of Tiptonville, Tennessee and Kimberly Dinkins of Kalamazoo, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Tara, Twyla, James II and Sasha Brown, Shaniece Avery, Tammera (Bo) Pierce and Kamrynn Dinkins; three great-grandchildren, Jala, Monet and Nicolette Brown; five sisters, Vernell (Louard) Crumbaugh of Nampa, Idaho, Beverly Odom of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Linda Martin of Oakland, California, Letitia (Ronald) Caldwell of Hickman, Kentucky and Tammy Westbrook of Plainfield, New Jersey; two brothers, Lloyd (Loretta) Westbrook of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Michael Westbrook of Plainfield, New Jersey; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Edward Lewis and Louise Stanton both of Lansing, Michigan.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Brown, I; sister, Mai Alice Beard and two brothers, Walvy Westbrook, Jr. and David Westbrook.
