Lillie B. Washington

June 1, 1925 — August 14, 2018

Sister Lillie B. Washington was called home to our Lord peacefully on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Covenant Hospital surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Washington was born to the late Mary and Barney Scott on June 1, 1925 in Magnolia, Mississippi. She was united in holy matrimony to Rev. George J. Washington and spent many lovely years with him. To that union eight children were born.

She accepted Christ at an early age in Magnolia, Mississippi. After moving to Saginaw, she was united with Bethesda Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Nick Hall. She later became a member of True Vine Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Robert B. Corley, Sr. and presently Pastor Paul E. Broaddus. Lillie was a member of the Senior Choir and she loved singing with her church family.

Lillie loved to dress up in her beautiful hats and suits. She also enjoyed watching her favorite show “Walker, Texas Ranger.” She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who her cherished her family.

She leaves to treasure her memory four daughters, Joyce (Carl) Wesley, Claudette Darden, Olivia Washington, all of California, Diane (Robert) Oden, Birmingham, Alabama; two sons, Barney Washington, California, Vernell Scott, Hammond, Louisiana; granddaughter and caregiver, Shonda Myles, Saginaw, Michigan; sister, Lillie M. Cooper, Saginaw, Michigan; godson, Anthony Franklin, Detroit, Michigan; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends, including special friend, Mrs. Josie Lee.

We had a wonderful mother, one who never really grew old. Her smile was made of sunshine,
and her heart was solid gold. Her eyes were as bright as shining stars, and in her cheeks fair roses you see. We had a wonderful mother, and that’s the way it will always be. But take heed, because she’s still keeping an eye on all of us, so let’s make sure she will like what she sees.
