Mr. Leon Wesson, also well-known as “Jim,” passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 at his residence in Flint, Michigan at the blessed age of 90 years. He was born March 17,1931 in Nashville, Arkansas, to Dewey Wesson and Anna Norcross. His dad passed away when he was 10 years old. Later, Mama Anna married Reverend Arthur Adams, who raised Leon as his own.
Mr. Wesson worked at General Motors for 31 years and was a Union Representative. In 1965, Mr. Wesson was instrumental in starting Alcoholics Anonymous at GM in Flint. He also volunteered at the Hasselbring, Senior Center for 20 years before becoming the Director. Jim was Second Vice-President of the NAACP, and is a Life Member. He served as president of three organizations, Cranwood Drive Block Club, Crime Watch, and the Booster Club, as well as serving on the Board of Directors of Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD). Mr. Wesson was the Chief of Umpires for the city and was over the Blueberry Festival in Montrose, Michigan. He umpired his last game in 2013 at the Blueberry Festival at the age of 82 years. Jim also enjoyed playing Dominoes, Spades, Bid Whist, and gardening.
He leaves to cherish loving memories his devoted and beautiful wife of 55 years, Earlean Wesson of Flint, Michigan; sons, Michael (Pamela) McChester, Leon (Jeanette) McChester; five daughters, Valerie (George) Wesson, Pamela (Anthony) Flourney, Nanette Wesson, Sheila McChester, and Leona Foster; many grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren too numerous to list; nephews, Pastor Elza Bearyman, Fred Bearyman; nieces, Nancy McGowan-Miller, Lisa Hall; three sisters-in-law, Geneva Presnall, Versalie Brown, and Joyce McKissik; one brother-in-law, Warren Love; many other relatives and friends Including special friends, Bossie Gilbert, Ethel Harris, Linda Conerly, and the Cranwood Drive Block Club.
Mr. Wesson was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Wesson, and Reverend Arthur and Anna Adams; brother, Burt Simmons; sister, Freddie Feaster; sons, Jack, Billy, and Steve McChester; Marjorie White, mother of their daughters, Nanette, Leona and Valerie.
