Larry Simmons

June 11, 1946 — June 8, 2022

Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather Larry J. Simmons passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Age 75 years. He was born June 11, 1946, in Caruthersville, Missouri to Johnnie Jr. and Roberta (Burns) Simmons.


Larry moved from Caruthersville, Missouri at an early age.  He was employed at Grey Iron until he had to take a disability leave.  He was blessed with the talents of playing the guitar and the organ which he used throughout his lifetime.  He played guitar with different gospel quartets and the organ for different churches including where he started playing at his parent’s church, Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, and later Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ.  He liked riding his bike around the neighborhood where he was affectionately known as “Pops.”  Larry was always excited and genuinely enjoyed when family and long-time friends would drop by for a visit.


He leaves to cherish his memories five sons, Larry (Veronica) Simmons, Las Vegas, NV, Robert (Kenya) Simmons, Flint, MI; James (Juanita Burns) Simmons, Lawrence Simmons, Larenzo Harris all of Saginaw, MI; three daughters, Linette Hogan, Rashonda (Sam) Hall both of Las Vegas, NV, Tesha Hardy of Saginaw, MI; thirty-six grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Ingram Robinson of Caruthersville, MO and three brothers Ivory Simmons, Ken Simmons of Caruthersville, MO, Eldridge Simmons of Oklahoma City, OK,; uncles Dan (Etta) Burns, Leon (Dorothy) Burns both of Saginaw, MI; aunts Geraldine Riley of Chicago, IL, Diana Burns, Patricia Burns both of Saginaw, MI; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.


 He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Simmons, Jr and Mother Roberta Paige, stepfather, Rev. Allen Paige, brother Johnnie Simmons, Jr. II, grandson Allen Simmons and nephew Jonathan (Patrick) Simmons and many other dear relatives.
