Johnny Johnson (Lansing)

February 7, 1953 — November 5, 2022

Mr. Johnny Ervin Johnson passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022, in Lansing, Michigan. Age 69 years. He was born February 7, 1953, to the parents of Pete Johnson and Geneva Sheperd in Memphis, Tennessee.

Johnny was retired but he previously worked for Lansing’s newspaper, The Lansing State Journal. He attended Michigan State University and lived in Lansing most of his adult life. Johnny was a very outgoing person, his personality, jokes, and dry sense of humor would light up the room. He enjoyed sports, cooking, hanging out with friends, and he loved playing cards, especially a hand of Bidwiz. Johnny also had a more serious side that cared and was concerned for those were marginalized and the injustices they suffered.

Johnny confessed a belief in Jesus Christ at a young age and later found peace and forgiveness in the saving grace of Christ. Our prayer is that his friends and family will find that same peace and forgiveness.

Johnny is survived by his two sons, Emery McClendon and Khalil Johnson; sisters, Esther Conway, Janice Mosley, Marsha Wysinger, and Allicia (Roland) Hines; brother, William (Ingrid) Sheperd; cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Pete Johnson and Geneva Sheperd; sisters, Cora McGinnis and Georgia Wilson; brother, Lester Mitchell.
