John Jerrell Johnson

August 16, 1965 — December 9, 2021

Mr. John Jerrell Johnson, whom everyone knew as “Jerrell,” passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Covenant Healthcare Cooper. Age 56 years. He was born August 16, 1965, in Detroit, Michigan to John Johnson and Gloria Jean Crigler.

John resided in Buena Vista Township and was a member of Garden of Eden under the leadership of Pastor Willie Smith. He attended Central High School, Detroit, Michigan. John was employed at Rent Way for six years, and Bavarian Inn, seven years prior to becoming disabled due to health issues. John loved rearranging his home, watching movies, “Bruce Lee Roy” and action movies were his favorite. He also loved to cook, eat, and listen to loud music. John just enjoyed life with his family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memories to his two sons, Julien Barnes, and Jerrell Johnson, four stepchildren; Malcom “Bubba Johnson”, Michael Johnson, Rick Simpson, Cerra Brown; mother, Gloria Jean Crigler; grandchildren, Malaysia Lawrence-Barnes, Julien J Barnes, Jr., Jerrell J., John, Ja’Layah, Ja’Lah, Jadah Johnson, all of Saginaw, Michigan, and Easton Payne, Bay City, Michigan; four sisters; Helena Renee (Andrew) Smith, Melody Denise Crigler, Emma “Jeani” Johnson, and Shelia Falls, all of Michigan; brothers; Timothy Peoples, and Tony Barnes; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends including a special aunt, Claudia Mims; special friend, Dorothy Butts; special nephews, Leviticus Low, Derrick Williams, Dequavis Wilson, Jerome Pulliam, Tony Hardin, Joseph Jackson, Xavier Barnes, Anthony Barnes, and Joseph Low.

John was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Johnson; son, John J. Johnson; sister, Nicole Denise Crigler; brothers, Glen Coleman and James Johnson; grandparents, John J. and Pinky Johnson; aunts and uncles, Zonnie and Carl Degroat, Emma Lee and Eddie Morris, Johnnie Mae and Bobbie Jones, Helena and Curtis Richardson, Voncill and Nathan Mullins.

The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Angela Parkes and Greater Impact International Ministries Church family, everyone who attended, Ivan E. Phillips and the staff at Paradise Funeral Chapel.
