John B Walker

Our beloved John B. Walker, Jr., departed this life and entered into rest on Saturday, July 13, 2013. Age 64 years. John was born March 16, 1949 in Pinola, Mississippi to John B. Sr. and Bernice Myree (Black) Walker but moved to Lansing, Michigan at an early age.
John attended Lansing Public Schools graduating from J. W. Sexton High School in 1967 with a passion for playing basketball. He continued his education at Lansing Community College and Jackson Community College. After his years in college, John worked for General Motors Corporation until his retirement in 1998. Upon retirement John moved back to Pinola, Mississippi and joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he accepted Christ as Lord and Savior of his life.
John was the type of person that never met a stranger. He could have a conversation with anyone and was well liked by all. John was not only known to be a Snazzy Dresser, he was also an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to do both with family and friends. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports and listening to the Blues.
On February 14, 1986, John married Katie B. Reid and they remained life-long companions. Johns grandson, Julian VanDyke, whom he raised, shared a special bond. Not only did John teach Julian to hunt, fish, and drive, they also enjoyed many other great experiences together both in Mississippi and Michigan.
He leaves to cherish his memory his life-long companion Katie; daughters, Keisha Reid of Belleville, Michigan, Shauneen (James) Murray of Detroit, Michigan; three step-children, Denise Moss of Jackson, Michigan, Sherry (John) Jiles of Hershey, Pennsylvania, Marcus (Dionnedra) Reid of East Lansing, Michigan; father, John B. Walker, Sr. of Mecosta, Michigan; three brothers, James (Gloria) Walker of Arkansas, Gary Walker and Jeff Walker both of Mecosta, Michigan; two sisters, Dorothy J. Clark of Jackson, Mississippi, Clara J. Loften of Magee, Mississippi; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five aunts, Maxine Walker, Ernestine Walker, Louvenia Black all of Lansing, Michigan, Shirley (Braxton) Bullock of Prentiss, Mississippi, and special aunt, Vernice Walker of Pinola, Mississippi; two uncles, Bart (Bennie-Lee) Black, and special uncle, Homer (Bertharine) Walker both of Lansing, Michigan, and many other relatives and friends, including good friends Donnie Pullin and Pastor Robert E. Nicholson.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Myree (Black) Walker, grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles. John was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
