Joe Willie Jackson

July 12, 1952 — April 29, 2020

Mr. Joe W. Jackson, of Defiance Ohio, beloved father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. Age 67 years. He was born July 12, 1952 in Grenada, Mississippi, the son of Ella V. Wrenn and Freeman Sallay.

Joe accepted Christ at an early age by becoming a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Saginaw, Michigan. After relocating to Defiance Ohio in 1987, he joined Galilee Baptist Church, where he served as a Bible School Teacher.

Joe was an amazing husband, father and patriarch to his family. He always had a love for vehicles, in particular Cadillacs. He was a pillar in his community and a long-time employee at General Motors UAW Powertrain for 41 years before retiring in 2006. Joe also served as a long-standing member of the local UAW Eagles for over fifteen years. He was a 2020 graduate of Fort Wayne College of Theology and Anchor Bible College, where he received his associate degree in Theology.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Freeman Sallay; mother and stepfather, Ella V. (Julius) Wrenn; sisters, Brenda Faye Wrenn, Martha Jean Sallay; brother, Stanley D Sallay.

He leaves to cherish his memory, life partner and best friend, Mary Michael Brown, Defiance, Ohio; five daughters, Kimberly (Howard) Anderson, Sabrenna Malott, Charleston South Carolina, Samara (Jermaine) Jackson-Merritt, Greenville, South Carolina, Jovienn (Maurice) Coon, Jessica Jackson, Defiance, Ohio; two sons, Joe W. II (Tianna) Jackson, Leondre Jackson (Theresa Scott), Defiance, Ohio; thirty-six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Darnell Calhoun, Shirley Manuel, Bernice Harris, Clifford (Leatha) Calhoun, Julius (Sonia) Wrenn, Louise McFadden, John A. Sallay, Charles P. Sallay, Sheila Marie Sallay, Antwon Sallay, Felicia Sallay, Freeman, Sallay; aunt, Pearl Mae Walker, Gary, Indiana; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to express special thanks to St. Vincent Medical Center, House of Day Funeral Home, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
