Jeffrey Washington

Mr. Jeffrey Earl Washington passed away at home on Friday, December 31, 2021, at the age of 53 years. He was born on August 28, 1968, in Saginaw, Michigan to Roosevelt Jr. and Clara Mae Washington.

Jeffrey attended Heavenrich Elementary, Webber Jr. High, Saginaw High School (C/O ‘86) and Knoxville College. He moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1988 and worked 20 years for Benteler Automotive before retiring in 2008.

Jeffrey enjoyed coaching and mentoring the youth (including his son) at Garfield Park Football League of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and did so for over 20+ years. Jeffrey’s love for football started at 8 years of age playing for Saginaw Eastown Cowboys, and Pride and Joy Youth Football League. What brought the most joy to his life was being a great father and grandfather, He was affectionately known as Pop-Pop which he wore as a badge of honor, exemplifying the special bond he shared with his children. He took great pride in assisting his grandchildren with remote schooling and homework during the pandemic which took a lot of patience, and he loved every minute of it. Jeffrey was a simple cool cat who loved listening to old school music. Whether it's Kool and the Gang to Scarface, from Earth, Wind and Fire to the Ghetto Boys. You would always hear him beat boxing to anything. He was an advice giver; he would listen to anyone’s problems and always gave his opinion whether you asked for it or not. He was a gentle giant as much as he may have yelled at the kids on the football field; he always cared about his team. He was a man who always enjoyed the company of his family, and he would do anything for them.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Marquita Washington (Jean Pierre); his son, Kendall Washington of Grand Rapids, Michigan; mother, Clara Washington, Saginaw, Michigan; sisters, Janice (Clifford) Murray and Jacqueline Washington, Grand Rapids, Michigan; His grand-daughter, and bonus grandchildren, Journey Pierre, Jean Pierre Jr, Mijhawn Pierre, and Zaniyah Mirelez; nieces and nephew, Arrington Washington, Kiara Murray, Verneshiea Washington, Kiona Murray, and Shakira Washington; very special cousins, Ashley Carter, Brian Pelt and Michael Stanton; best friend, Rod Green; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Jeffrey Washington was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Roosevelt Washington Jr., his maternal grand-parents, Moses and Clara Washington, and his paternal grand-parents, Roosevelt and Leodis Washington.
