James O Nash Jr.

March 9, 1958 — November 5, 2013

Mr. James O. Nash Jr. passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Christus Sister Mary Hospice Center of San Antonio, Texas after a battle with heart disease. Age 55 years. Affectionately known as Bowie, James was born March 9, 1958 in Sunflower, Mississippi to James O. and Eunice Pearl (Robinson) Nash.
James was raised in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the second oldest of four sister and one brother. James graduated from the Michigan School for the deaf. He was a father, son, brother, nephew, uncle, grandfather, cousin, ex-husband and friend to many in the hearing and deaf community in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Texas.
He leaves to cherish his memory four children, Darryl Nash and Rashaun Jabari Hill, both of Chicago, Illinois, James Nash Taylor of Kewanee, Illinois, Travis Joseph Brown of Little Rock, Arkansas; one stepson, Lamar Simmons; five grandchildren, Darryl Nash, Robert James Taylor, Traylon and Traniya Brown, Nicole Hill; his father and stepmother, James O. Sr. and Bessie Mae Nash; one brother, Daniel J. Nash, Laurel, Maryland; four sisters, Ann Bush, Starksville, Mississippi, JoAnn Nash, Saginaw, Michigan, Barbara Richardson, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Renea Nash-Nichols, Phoenix, Arizona; one step-brother, Kevin Wearrien; many other relatives and friends including close family friends, Alfred and Brenda Vinson of Saginaw, Michigan. In addition, he leaves behind a wealth of intimate friends in both the hearing and deaf community across the country who were his second family including, Thia Simmons, Juanita Creamer, Shawnette Odusina, Patrick Creamer, Alisa Taylor, Tanya Brown, Qualonda Hill and Debra Nash.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice Pearl Nash, one daughter, a beloved aunt, Janie Wells Drysden, family friends, John and Ernestine Petty.
The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, CNAs and case managers at the Baptist Medical Center and Christus Sister Hospice Center for their care of James Jr. A heartfelt thanks and gratitude is extended to the staff of Hacienda Apartments, San Antonio Independent Living, the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, DeafLINK, Services by Vital Signs, the pastors and congregations of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio and New Life Deaf Fellowship at Northern Hills UMC.
