James Gordon Mclaurin

December 14, 1950 — March 11, 2018

Mr. James Gordon McLaurin passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. Age 67 years. He was born on December 14, 1950 in Manhattan, New York to Fulton McLaurin, Sr. and Eva McLaurin.

James, the youngest of five children, grew up in South Jamaica Queens, New York. Known as the best point guard of Forest Hill High School’s basketball team, and graduate of the Class of 1968, James continued to showcase those skills on the basketball court at Evangel College. Besides having the love for basketball, James loved to sing, write and minister the gospel of Jesus Christ to others. While living in New York, he was a member of Bethel Gospel Tabernacle Church and served in many ministries throughout Jamaica and Harlem. In 1975, James came to Saginaw, Michigan with Teen Challenge. In August of 1975, he was ordained as a minister of Michigan North Central Jurisdiction by Prelate Emeritus Bishop H. J. Williams. James was employed by the City of Saginaw and worked in the Waste Treatment Plant; he is also the founder of Saginaw Basketball Association. He was a social butterfly with a great sense of humor, and easily to befriend. James had many friends and was a great friend to both famous and infamous, that he met along his life’s journey. He will be greatly missed.

James leaves to cherish loving memories two daughters and two sons, Natalie (Greg) Johnson, Annie (Tony) Carson, Jeremiah McLaurin, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Travis Hendrix, Fort Wayne, Indiana; six grandchildren, Nyles Latimer, Jaiyah Taylor, Nia Johnson, Anthony Carson, Jr., Jeremiah and Braylen Givands; three sisters, Annie Hodges, Smyrna, Delaware, Barbara Brown, Long Island, New York, and Jacqueline McLaurin, Queens, New York; many other relatives and friends including his Facebook and social media friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fulton McLaurin, Sr.; mother, Eva McLaurin, and brother, Fulton McLaurin, Jr.

The family would like to express special thanks to Montefiore Medical Center and Split Rock Rehabilitation Health Care Center in Bronx, New York, and Kenneth Meeker, social worker.
