Isaiah Coleman

February 1, 1932 — June 17, 2018

Isaiah Coleman, Sr. was born by the river on February 1, 1932 on Palmyra Island, Mississippi to Oliver Sr. and Lillie Coleman. He left the south and journeyed to the north at the age of seventeen. He found work in Saginaw, Michigan with the General Motors Corporation. He worked there for fifty-six and a half years before retiring. Isaiah was loved and respected by his co-workers and they gave him the nickname “Ike.” He was a man of few words, but if the conversation was about western movies or Chuck Norris, then he had plenty to say. He could tell you all about John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and everything that happened in the Wild, Wild West. Isaiah was also passionate about cars. He could take them apart and put them back together. He was a skilled mechanic and his hands were blessed. Calm, laid-back and a slow driver is how his family lovingly remembers him. Comfortably seated on his porch is how his neighbors always saw him. A hard worker, father, companion and friend is how he will be forever cherished.

On Sunday, June 17, 2018, Isaiah entered into eternal rest, where he joined his wife Mildred Coleman; sons, Carl and Ike Coleman; parents, Oliver and Lillie Coleman; sisters, Estella Byrd, Irene Holmes, Julia Childress, Lille Williams, Susie Henderson, Mary Lee, Lizzie Wilson; brothers, Roger, James, David and Oliver Coleman, Jr.

Isaiah leaves to carry on his legacy his loving companion of forty years, Wanda Smith; two daughters, Breezely (Danyeil) Taylor, Charla Liggins; four sons, Isaiah Coleman, Jr., Barry Coleman, Sylvester (Nicole) Liggins, Solathian (Tiera) Liggins; sister, Lucille (William Sr.) Qualls; many grandchildren and special granddaughter, Izasha Gardner; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including nephews closest to him, Wendell Stacy, Roderick Coleman and Richard Lewis.

The family would like to express special thanks to St. Mary’s Hospital and Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
