Hazel Sharlene Jones, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012. Age 73 years. She was born November 25, 1939 in Saginaw, Michigan to Leola V. Maxey.
Hazel attended Saginaw High School and was an employee of St. Mary's Burn Unit, a librarian of Pontiac Academy and Grandmother of Herig Elementary school. Affectionately known as Granny Jones, she had a gift for storytelling and a calling to work with children. Her passions in life included cooking, fishing, gardening, gospel music and her family.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, two children, Sharon E. (Virgil) Petty, Kevin D.Maxey Sr.; ten grandchildren, Virgil L. Petty, Kevin Maxey, Cordney (Angela) Petty, Pharrington (Shayla) Maxey, Bryan Petty, Aaron Petty, RyJean Maxey, Dominique Maxey, Jalen McMillan, Justin McMillan; five great grandchildren, Makenzie Rowland, Bryan Maxey, Brandon Maxey, Braylon Maxey and Cordney Petty Jr; a loving sister, Mildred Landrum; special friends, Ronnie Dugan, Ola McMillan, Clarise Coleman, Roy Davis, Clinton Williams Sr., Jackie Granado, Willie Mae Murick, Wilma Long, Niece Reed, Harry Bonds, Willie Coleman, David Bandy, Taniecea Rogers, Ronald and June Swift and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Leola Maxey; stepfathers, Benjamin Thompson and Cleo Maxey; daughter, Geralyn Browne; step- sister, Rose Dugan-Smith; great grandchild, Brea Maxey, and grandnephew, Sanuwell Landrum.
