Evangelist Vonda Kay Massey

July 17, 1964 — October 4, 2021

Mrs. Vonda K. Massey entered this world in humble surroundings on July 17, 1964 and transitioned into her heavenly rest on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the age of 57. She was blessed to be born into the loving family of the late Bishop Marvin C. Pryor and Evangelist Ruth C. Pryor.

Growing up in Flint, MI, Vonda was a graduate of Flint Southwestern High School in 1982. A faithful Sunshine Band, Purity Class and Youth Choir Member at Greater Holy Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of her first Pastor, Bishop Roger L. Jones, Vonda blossomed into a beautiful woman ready to fulfill her purpose. Vonda followed in the footsteps of her parents by becoming a teacher after graduating from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Fueled by her unwavering faith, Vonda had a passion for prayer, people, and music, in addition to being a great supporter of Victorious Believers Ministries. Not only was she a proud member who believed in the vision wholeheartedly, but she would also often assist her mother, Evangelist Ruth C. Pryor, during her speaking engagements. Vonda was very creative and suggested the name Victorious Believers Ministries to her father when the church transitioned from Williams Memorial in 1995.

Our dear Vonda served many years as president and director of the Echoes of Praise Choir and Little Saints in Praise Children’s Choir. Many can recall the familiar expressions of Vonda pointing her finger, shaking her head and doing a Holy Ghost spin as an anointed and powerful choir director. She was a gifted Sunday School teacher who also served for many years as the mistress of ceremony for the annual children’s pageant and dressed up as the famous “Bee” at the Southwest Michigan Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Sunshine Band June Jamberee. You could find her traveling to Central Michigan and Northwood Universities weekly to teach bible study and inspire the college students.

Vonda also served as the director of several programs through VBM Community Outreach and most recently helped as one of the Life Group coordinators, along with encouraging and praying with members through the In-Touch Ministry. One of the last endeavors the Lord impressed upon Vonda’s heart was birthing a group entitled “Sister Girls” where she invested and imparted wholeness for single women. Vonda was a special friend and mentor to many young women because of her transparency and unique way to connect with people.

Mrs. Vonda K. Massey married the love of her life, Elder John Massey, and transitioned to Sicklerville, New Jersey in 2016. She loved spending time with her husband and family and will forever be remembered for her comedic spirit and impersonations. Vonda loved to laugh and her smile and spirit will forever be cherished. Evangelist Vonda will forever hold a special place in the hearts of many close family and friends; Missionary Diane Holliman, Missionary Doris Swilley, Mrs. Sheri Hodgers, Ms. Sheila Baber, Ms. Javetta Kyles, Ms. Sharon Lawrence-Taylor, special childhood friend, Ms. Pam Lynch-Phillips, and mentor, Apostle Rita Muse, along with being one of the biggest supporters of her brother, Pastor Chris.

She leaves to treasure her memory her loving husband: Elder John Massey (Sicklerville, NJ); mother: Evangelist Ruth C. Pryor (Saginaw, MI); brothers: Derrick D. Pryor and Superintendent Christopher V. (Kenyatta) Pryor (Saginaw, MI); sister-in-love: Gwedolyn Pryor (Flint, MI); grandmother: Irma M. Trice (Jackson, MI); sister-in-love: April Massey (Pine Hill, New Jersey); brother-in-loves: Derrick Sr. (Nicole) Massey (Deptford, NJ), Stevie (Phyllis) Barnes (New Jersey); nieces: Alexis (Dr. Willie) McClure (Cleveland, OH), Loren A.
