Etta Hunt

August 21, 1945 — October 1, 2022

Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Mrs. Etta Hunt, made her transition at her home surrounded by family on October 1, 2022. Etta was born to Ivra and Beatrice Baldwin Sr. in Altheimer, Arkansas, August 21, 1945.

Etta graduated from Altheimer High School, Class of 1963. She was baptized as a Jehovah Witness in 1975. Etta moved to Las Vegas, Nevada after marrying Samuel Owens in 1964. To their union, Kelvin Owens and Cassandra Phillips were born. Etta then relocated to Saginaw, Michigan where she met her current husband and loving partner of 48 years, Gary Hunt. Born to that union was Tabitha Hunt-Dixon. Gary brought to this union, Gary Hunt Jr., Jennifer Hunt, and Benjamin Wilkins.

Etta had over 25 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry. She started her career at the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada where she advanced quickly. She later moved to Saginaw, Michigan in October 1973 and began her career at the Radisson Hotel. She became the Director of Sales in October 1993. She later became the first African American woman to hold the position of General Manager at Princess Inn. Etta retired to continue the care of her family, including her mother and father, whom she loved and cared for deeply. In 1996, Gary and Etta began their own company Hunt & Hunt Property Management where they provided affordable housing across Saginaw. Etta enjoyed gardening vegetables, planting flowers, singing, sewing, cooking, and assisting with raising her grandchildren, Naleisha, D’Sean, Niara, Imani, Diego, Dario, and Garianna.

She leaves to celebrate her life and mourn her passing, her husband, Gary Hunt Sr; her children, Kelvin (Nichole) Owens, Jennifer Hunt, Cassandra Phillips, Benjamin Wilkins, Tabitha (Erico) Hunt-Dixon; two brothers, Roy (Evelyn) Baldwin, Keith (LaTanza) Baldwin; four sisters, Betty Mason, Pamela Baldwin, Patricia (Clarence) Oates and Cynthia Baldwin-Ashford.
