Ms. Ella Mae Joshua passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Covenant Healthcare Cooper. Age 51 years. She was born March 14, 1971, in Lansing, Michigan, to Leroy Sutton and Lee Dora Barnes. 


Ella Mae was affiliated with Christ Kingdom Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Edward and Mattie Jackson. She loved singing, dancing, cooking, and watching the Food Network with Bobbi Flay. Ella Mae was loving, caring, and overprotective of the entire family. She was a jokester, made everyone laugh, and was just fun to be around. Ella would give her last to help you. She was a big cry baby; she cried about everything good or bad. Ella Mae will be greatly missed by family and friends.


She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter and two sons, Rashanta Joshua and Terrence Joshua, both of Bay City, Michigan, and Andrew McDaniel Joshua, Flint, Michigan; dearest love, Allan Sommer (and Ella were together over twenty years) three stepchildren, Cody, Susan, and Bobbie Sommer, Saginaw, Michigan; grandchildren, Dee’Shawna Joshua, Aubry Trevino, and Ezra Joshua, Bay City, Michigan, Jalen Brown, Ava McDaniel, and Makhi McDaniel, all of Flint, Michigan; stepfather, Anthony Cushman; one sister, Willie Mae (Donald) Bivens; three nieces, Erisha Joshua, Johnesha Harris, and Shaniya Joshua; thirteen great-nieces; six nephews, Calvin, Delmont, Kenny Ray, and Christopher Joshua, and Javion Wyrick; nine great-nephews; six aunts, Mary Etta Barnes, Hanna (Robert) Barnes- Dawson, Gloria (Tim) Barnes-Stark, Patricia Ann Barnes, Katie (Jessie) Hopson, Bessie Green; six uncles, Eddie Lee Barnes, Woodrow Barnes, Willie Earl Barnes, Charles Barnes, Randy Barnes, and Sammie Labon; a host of cousins; brother-in-law, Donald Bivens; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Jennefie "Sudder" Stewart, Michelle McCray, and Nick Trueblood.


Ella Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Dora Barnes, and Leroy Sutton; sister, Bessie Mae Joshua; brother, Gerald Jackson; grandparents, Willie Mae Brown, and E. J. Joshua, and James and Christina Barnes; aunts, Nita Lavon, Rose Mary Hardin, and Odessa Barnes; uncles, Willie James Barnes, and Clarence Barnes; nephews, Tony DeShawn Joshua, Isaac Barnes, and DeAndre Stewart; cousins, Anthony "Tony" Barnes, Alan Shane Hutson, N’ala Wallace, and Johnny Crawford; and special frend, Bill Stewart.


The family would like to express special thanks to Covenant Cooper Hospital; special cousin, Nicole Barnes; uncles, James Barnes, Clarence Barnes; aunt, Nita Lavon, Rose Mary Hardin, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
