Edward Blackmon, Sr. (Lansing)

Mr. Edward Blackmon, Sr. passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at McLaren Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 58 years. He was born August 17, 1959 to Jake Blackmon and Sadie Austin in Canton, Mississippi.

Edward, also known as “J.R.,” received his GED in 2000. He was a loving man and family meant the most to him. Edward enjoyed shooting dice, playing pool, and watching wrestling on Monday nights. He also liked to keep up with news and the Young and the Restless soap opera.


He leaves to cherish all of his fun memories, his children, Ashley Oliver, of Lansing, Michigan, Erica Davis, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Weston Dallas McDaniels, Tamara Young, Edward Blackmon, Jr., and Thomas Blackmon, all of Lansing, Michigan, Sadie Bartley and Danielle Bartley both of Detroit, Michigan, Tierra Manuel and Cassandra Brown, both of Lansing, Michigan; 15 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins including special cousin, Walter Wilson and other relatives and friends including special friends, Rudy Alvarez, Dave Henges, Alvin Stewart, Glen Collins, Gauland Rymes, Theresa Green, Lynette Oliver, and special "daughter" Janel Blocker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sadie Austin and Jake Blackmon; siblings, Irene Luckett, Onie Austin, Betty Smith, J.D. Austin, Mabel Gentrey, Maria Austin, Jasper Austin and Jamie Austin.
