Desinthia T. Barry (Lansing)

DeSinthia Turnley-Barry, a longtime resident of Lansing, Michigan, crossed over to her heavenly home on September 17, 2020 at the age of 65 while sleeping peacefully in her bed.

DeSinthia married her beloved husband Tennison Barry on July 15, 2000 in Lansing, Michigan. They were married 20 years. She was the love of his life.

DeSinthia was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 28, 1955 to Israel Boatner and Walter Turnley, Jr. She moved with her family to Lansing, Michigan at an early age and attended Lansing School District schools. After graduating from Harry Hill High, Cynthia discovered a fascinating love for hair styling. She enrolled in Craig’s Beauty College and proudly became a talented, certified cosmetologist. Cynthia was the most loving, devoted mother of three; Tawana, DeShon and Bobby. She was a prayerful woman of God who attended Union Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Melvin T. Jones and was last employed at Johnson Controls, Inc. Cynthia had a strong passion for helping others and would go above and beyond for anyone who needed her. She would also light up any room she walked in with her smile and jubilant personality. Whether she was dancing or joking with you, the laughs were nonstop and full of enjoyment. Cynthia wholeheartedly cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed casinos and vacationing with friends and family. The impact Cynthia had on everyone she crossed paths with is immeasurable. We’re all extremely grateful for the time we had with her and God has truly gained an angel like no other.

DeSinthia is survived by her husband, Tennison Barry; mother, Israel Degree; six children, Tawana Leek (Calvin) and DeShon (Marsha) Leek of Lansing, Michigan; Bobby (Kamari) Lane of Dallas, Texas; Tennison (Ginelle) Barry of Greenville, South Carolina; Alondré (Johnnetta) Barry and Nahshon Barry of Detroit, Michigan; grandchildren; Mar’Shon, DeVion, DeShon II, Kenzington, Kruze, Tennison III, Alivya, Alondré II, Lynesia, Alani and Posey; great-grandchildren; Jayden, King, Qua’Drese and Mar’Shon Jr. who adored their Gmom; siblings, Althea (Wavely) Jones; Ronald (Sandra) Turnley and Dave Jermaine (Tiffany) Degree; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Turnley, Jr.; sister, Barbara Turnley; maternal grandmother, Ivory D. Boatner; paternal grandparents, Walter Turnley, Sr., Bertha Bush, step-grandfather, Edward Bush; stepfather, Dave J. Degree; aunts, Mildred Harris and Shirley A. Boatner; uncles, Israel Boatner, Jr. and Gregory Boatner.
