Mrs. Della Jean Darby was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 2, 2014. She was born Sunday, August 16, 1953 in Fayette, Alabama to Herbert and Mamie McKinney.
Della was a longtime resident of Saginaw, Michigan where she has resided since childhood. She was a 1971 graduate of Buena Vista High School. On June 3, 1972 she was united in holy matrimony to Thomas C. Darby Sr. He survives her. Della was a faithful member of Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Fred A. Lewis. She enjoyed her career as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years having been employed at Saginaw Grey Iron Foundry for over 20 years. Della loved reading and gardening. She had a special touch with flowers. Della had a huge and giving heart that everyone knew and loved. Her wonderful presence will be truly missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 41 years, Thomas C. Darby Sr.; one son, Thomas C. (Mary) Darby Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan; two daughters, Candice (Phillip) Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia and Crystal Darby of Nashville, Tennessee; four grand-daughters; her mother, Mrs. Mamie McKinney; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Betty Harris; many other beloved family and friends that she loved dearly.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and supporting the many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually. We would like to extend a special thank you to Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel, Pastor Fred Lewis and the Lewis Temple COGIC family, Mother Cooper and the Cashaw family.
