Deacon Samuel Houston Casey "Sam"

Deacon Samuel Houston Casey affectionately known as “Sam” to many, and Popa to all of his grandchildren, transitioned to eternal life on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Covenant HealthCare Harrison. He was born February 17, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan, to Gerald Pritchet and Marjorie Casey.

Sam, a longtime resident of Saginaw, Michigan, grew up Inkster, Michigan, where he attended Inkster Public Schools. (Sam)uel's dad, Gerald Pritchet Sr., taught him everything. His childhood and teen years were very eventful. At the age of 14 years, (Sam)uel began working the family business along with his dad. It was then Sam learned how to drive trucks while hauling beans and produce. Saginaw, Michigan was included in their weekly runs to the Michigan Beanery. Sam often talked about how he looked forward to coming to Saginaw because they would always buy lunch at the Rib Shack on E. Genesee Street. They would park along the Saginaw River. Sam had fond memories of skipping rocks, catching snakes and watching the boats pass by. Sam laughed as he remembered selling sandwich bags full of beans with a straw cut in half to his classmates for .25 cents. The pea shooters caused a big problem. When Lady Marj found out, it was a wrap. By the way, Lady Marj was his mother, whom he loved dearly. In her eyes Sammy could do no wrong.

 Sam's life was full of wholesome activities. His dad taught him how to ride a Harley at 12 yrs. old, his toes barely touched the ground. Sam's dad thought he could do anything. Sam's hobbies included riding dirt bikes, minibikes, motorcycles, camping, hunting, football, Marvel comics, fishing, horseback riding and grilling. Sam was very quiet but stern. He loved his family and was very protective.

After the passing of his dad, Sam became devastated and took a wayward turn in life for a season. While attending the college of hard knocks, Sam read the Bible daily, renewing his faith in God. Once Sam was released, he found employment immediately. He was hired by Mr. Miller of Miller’s Swimming Pool Coverings. There Sam learned how to sew on vinyl and grommet eyelets for the covers. Because Sam was such a hard worker, he sought extra employment. Dave Davis hired Sam at Shukra USA. There Sam learned how to put lumbar on frames for the Cherokee Jeeps. After 5 years, Sam began driving 18 wheelers for DMJ Trucking, owned by Greg Gillette hauling gravel, topsoil, sand, peastone, and clay

Samuel met the love of his life. He introduced her to his mother. Lady Marj knew that her son was happy before her demise. On June 26, 1999, Samuel married Patrice LaFaye Boulware. Into this marriage came 2 daughters, 1 son, and a God-sent son.

Samuel gave his life to Christ while attending the Conant Gardens SDA Church where his wife was a faithful member. He was ordained under the leadership of Pastor John Grier for 6 yrs. Sam continued to serve faithfully 10 more years under Pastor Ralph Shelton Sr.'s leadership. He was committed and dedicated as he was a servant of God and a friend to man.

Deacon Sam picked up a few more titles, such as Coach, Pathfinder Field Guide, and Best Griller amongst the men. Sam was loving, fun, compassionate, protective, and was a great provider to his family. Samuel moved to Saginaw in 2004. There he became a roofer. He found his niche at National Roofing & Sheet Metal, Gary Sova owner. Sam worked well with his fellow roofers and soon became a licensed journeyman. He loved his wife with his life, and made sure that she was happy. Sam supported Patrice in everything that she was passionate about. His children blessed him with 11 grandchildren and (3) bonus. They were his joy.

Sam leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 23 years, Patrice LaFaye Boulware-Casey; his children, Kimya Maisha McKinnon of Saginaw, Michigan, Nataki Ntianu McKinnon of Detroit, Michigan, Kenda Kimani McKinnon of Southfield, Michigan, and Maurice Anthony Bush Jr. of Detroit, Michigan;

Grandchildren, Shi'Langston McKinnon, Toren, Taron Sewell of Detroit, MI, Be'Yari, Kendaria, Braylen, Kylen, Kamea Kamolay of Saginaw, Michigan, Kamoni McKinnon of Redford, Michigan, and Kenda McKinnon, Jr. of Sterling Heights, Michigan;
