Danny Paul "The Maestro" Dottery age 60 years made his final transition home to be with The Lord on Friday, June 20, 2014. He was born June 25, 1953 in Saginaw, Michigan to Clarence and Josephine Dottery.
Danny was well known across the country for his love and gift as a musician and guitarist which was discovered by his parents when he was just the tender age of 4 years old. This discovery later lead him to share his passion with so many all over the world, leaving his oldest brother Larry to lovingly call him ?The "Maestro"...He was a dedicated employee for many years at Garber Buick and Draper Chevrolet. Danny also worked as a paraprofessional at Carrollton Schools Special Needs Program where he cared for and grew to love many. He invited one of those young men into his family. The entire Dottery family as a whole loved him as one of their own, inviting him to church and family functions. Lovingly calling him ?Pops?, Lavell Howell was loved dearly by Danny. Through his love for music he dedicated many years to Maximum Effect Band, Soul Express, Carl McCray Band, Larry McCray Band, Solid Rock Gospel Singers, Rocks of Harmony, New Life Baptist Church, Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Men of Valor, Forgiven, Dottery Dottery and The Dottery Singers. Danny played and opened for many artist such as G.O.N.E. Ensemble, The Vibrations, The Dramatics, LJ Reynolds, Tony Tatum, The Isley Brothers, James Brown, Bobby Byrd, Rance Allen, The Commodores, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Canton Spirituals, Williams Brothers, Lee Williams, Five Special, Katie Payne, Lil Jean, Phyllis Hyman, James Hudson, Lou Oaks, his brother Clarence ?Boonie? Dottery, Angel Dottery, his son Danny Paul Jr. who was also his drummer and many, many, many more.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving, devoted wife and best friend of 44 years, Olivia Dottery; his seven beautiful children, Idella (Emmitt), Danny Jr., Edward "Lamont" (Melinda), Deidre, Ebony "LaVonne", Ivory "Charmaine" (Duriel Sr.) and Amber "Lassai" (Terry); his sixteen grandchildren that he loved so dearly 3 of which he raised and fathered as his very own, Deshay (Collins) Toryaunte and Jamario, Emmitt III, Danny Jr., Andreas Jr., Jalen "Andrew", Edward Jr., Kenshon, Arrielle, Ariana, Duriel Jr., Miangel, Aeneas "Squirt", Josiah and Jay'Lynn; eight siblings, Larry (Sharon) Dottery, Lee Edward (Yvette) Dottery, Clarence (Angel) Dottery, Pamela Dottery, Gregory Dottery, Vivian Dottery, Stephon Dottery and Antione (Carmen) Dottery; two god-daughters, TeArrace "Champaine" Sherman and Layla "Lay Lay" Mitchell; his extended family, The Johnson-Evans family and special friends, Men of Valor, James Knox, Peggy Smith, Sharrie Williams, Lavel Jackson, Alden Payne, Leonard Portifield, his godson in music James Owens, Andreas Parsley Sr., Scott Vanell, Alfonso Jamerson, Willie T. Coleman, Lorenzo Pierson, Milton Southern, Kayron Lewis and his Pastor, Dr. Willie R. Hill; a host of very special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and musicians.
Danny was preceded in death by his loving parents, Deacon Clarence and Mother Josephine Dottery, his father and mother-in-law, Bishop Tom Johnson and Mother Velma Johnson.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2014 7:00pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 810 Cathay St. Saginaw, Michigan. Hosted by Wilmer Ham- McZee
