Cleveland Moore (Lansing)

November 29, 1939 — December 13, 2022

Cleveland Moore Sr, our beloved patriarch, was called to be with our Lord on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Sparrow Health System, Sparrow Campus in Lansing Michigan at the age of 83 years.. His passing was peaceful, and he was comforted by loved ones until the end.

Cleveland was born in Columbus, Mississippi, on November 29, 1939, to parents, Annie Belle Jamison and Thomas Moore. He moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in his early childhood. Being the 6th of seven siblings, Cleveland learned the importance of caring for family, hard work, and self-responsibility at a young age. These characteristics would be the foundation on which he would raise his own family.

In the late 1960’s, Cleveland met and eventually married Linda N. Mack of Lansing, Michigan in 1970. The two would raise a family of seven boys. The marriage dissolved in the mid 1980’s. Cleveland would eventually meet and marry Sandra Gothard of Paw Paw, Michigan. They remained married until his death.

Cleveland began working for General Motors, as a line operator, in the early 1970’s. After a few years, Cleveland applied for and was accepted into the skilled trades program. He would go on to become a Journeyman Millwright. Cleveland retired from General Motors in 2009, after 35 years of employment.

Cleveland Moore Sr. was a great family man, friend and coworker. He was loved by his incredibly large family and close friends. He was known as the person you could turn to and rely on when you were in need. There was always space in his home for family and friends. Anyone who knew him is familiar with his signature “Hey, how we doing…!?” greeting. It was genuine, heartfelt and always made you feel comfortable. Cleveland had an infectious laugh that resonated from his soul. When watching his favorite comedy movies or shows, you could hear him laughing from anywhere in the house. Because of his laid-back demeanor and temperament, Cleveland was effectually referred to as “Cool Cat” by his loved ones. Cleveland had many interests, and most of them revolved around his family. He loved attending every event his children participated in. From sporting events to teachers’ meetings, Cleveland played an active role in his sons’ lives. He enjoyed multifamily barbeques and gatherings, spending time with his siblings and family members in Grand Rapids and watching sporting events and old westerns. His legacy of love for family, lives on in his sons and their families.

Cleveland Moore Sr. leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Sandra Moore of Lansing, Michigan; 7 sons, Marcus (Lisa) Moore of Harbor Beach, Michigan; James (Victoria) Moore of Lansing, Michigan; Dwayne (Carla) Moore of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Cleveland Moore Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana; Crispus (Amy) Moore of Indianapolis, Indiana; Darryl (Kristine) Moore of Pontiac, Michigan; Anthony (Darlene) Moore of Dimondale, Michigan; 30 grandchildren; many other relatives and friends including special friends Claudia (Hart) Franklin of Lansing, Michigan, and Jennifer Howland of Lansing, Michigan.
