Charlie Rivers passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 at St. Mary's of Michigan Medical Center. Charlie Henry Rivers was born on January 22, 1928 in Union Springs, Alabama to Fred and Izora Rivers.
He resided in Saginaw, Michigan where he was employed at General Motors for 30 years. Charlie also sold fruits and vegetables out the back of a truck in his spare time. He enjoyed watching Old Westerns on TV, fishing, watching the great-grandchildren dance, but what he enjoyed most was the casino. He was a loving and caring man.
He leaves to cherish his memory his eight children Cynthia Gereldine, Richard, Linda, and William, all of Saginaw, MI, Kenneth, Sacramento, CA, Chris, Grand Rapids, MI, and Cearn, Bay City, MI. He also leaves behind 22 grandchildren: Shontell (John), Toni (Jose), Louis, Remiska, Gregory, Anthony, Ajayla, Armoni, Kindra, Trena, Tameka, Jawana, DeMonte, Richard Jr. Larisha, Tiffany, James, Cearn Jr. Utevia, Derrick, Derrica, Norman, 20 great-grandchildren, three sisters: Dorothy Bank, Tuskegee Al, Algertha Pritchell and Minnie Ivey, Saginaw, MI; four brothers: Nathaniel (Ida Mae) Rivers, Saginaw, MI, Fred (Lula B.) Rivers Jr., Robert Rivers, Union Springs, AL, James Gochett, Muskegon, Al. A host of nieces and nephews and special friends; Patricia White and family and Hosea Campbell.
He is preceded in death by his wife Emma Rivers, parents, Fred and Izora Rivers, sisters, Freddie Mae Penn, Minnie Gochett, brothers, James and Thomas Rivers, great-granddaughter Shuguanna Lee, grandmother, Carrie Downing, grandfather, Henry Downing.
The family would like to express special thanks to his granddaughter and caregiver, Toni Mirelez, A & D Healthcare, Visiting Physicians and all the grandchildren who helped take care of him when he was at home.
