Catherine Stewart Wilson (Lansing)

A kindhearted woman gains respect. Proverbs 11:16

Catherine Stewart-Wilson went home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2017 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. She was born May 29, 1943 in Kilmichael, Mississippi, to a loving mother Mary Ann Ware and father Eugene Allen, both of Winona, Mississippi.

Through her beautiful smile, sincere eyes, compassion for others, and amazing kind heart, Catherine Stewart-Wilson captivated many. Even as a young child growing up in the south Catherine was always cheerful, had an contagious smile, and kept a positive outlook on life. She had her first three children while living in Winona, Mississippi, and then moved to Lansing, Michigan to give herself and her children a better life. Once, Catherine arrived in Lansing, Michigan in 1965, she met Sylvester Stewart a charming young man who charmed her right to the altar and married her. Sylvester recalls Catherine recently telling him that he was the only person in the world that is close to her that calls her Catherine rather than calling her by a nickname Cat or Cathy.

Catherine had a zest for life and loved many things. She had an amazing love and special relationship with each of her seven children. Each child had their special activity they would do with her, or conversation with her. She loved her children immensely and all who knew her closely knows how special her children were to her and how proud she was of them.

Catherine loved to make custom jewelry and made many fashion pieces for her loved ones. She also like to go to church, go fishing with her family and friends, play bingo, or even gather with family and friends and play games and eat great food. Catherine was very active in the community and her favorite program was the Senior Companion Program.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Derrick Allen of Los Angeles, California, Shellie Allen, Deondre Allen, Sylvia Ray, Sherrie Stewart, Tara Stewart, all of Lansing, Michigan and Donna (Eli) Duncan of Detroit, Michigan. Grand-children: Michael, Deondre Jr. and DeShawn Allen, Lluis and Nuria Allen-Bosch, Miquala’ Branklin, Amirha and Deon Warren, Dominique, Darquise and Davarry Stewart, Aleeah Ray, Kierra, and Chelsea Stewart-Wilson, and Rickey Wilson; 10 great grandchildren and many loving brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter; grandson, Jovan Allen; sisters, Mary Jean Overstreet, Anneast Flowers, Nadine Allen, Iretha Allen and Ineka Allen; brothers Albert Allen and Lee Allen and sister-in-law Glena Allen.
