Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend, gained her wings and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 24, 2018. Age 61 years. She was born April 3, 1957 in Phillip County, Arkansas to Odessa Young and Jesse Rutledge.
Brenda moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1969 at the age of twelve years old. She attended Saginaw High School and graduated with honors, “Class of 1975.” She went on to attend college and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business. After college graduation, she worked at Giant Food Market for several years.
Brenda enjoyed church and participating in church ministry and activities. But more than anything, she loved her grandkids. Known in her family as “Big Momma”, she took care of everyone. She enjoyed cooking for her family and anyone who was hungry. Big Momma was a strong woman with a strong presence that will be forever missed.
Brenda was preceded in death by her mother, Odessa Young-Sims; stepfather, James Sims; sister, Gwendolyn Jakes; three brothers, Larry Sims, Belford Williams, Harold Barnett; nephews, Corey, Antwan, Derrick and Zedrick.
She leaves to celebrate her life three daughters, Sparkle Roby, Sabrina, Ashley Mason; son, Brandon Sims; godchildren, Marshawn McNair, Shonda Pierson, Latanya Comer, Veronica Perkins, Waquila Arthur, Raymond Berry; sisters, Linda Patterson, Wondolyn Martin, Sonya Turner, Toni (Charles) Peterson; brother, Harry (Dorothy) Sims; grandchildren, Anthony Clark, Patrick, Paris, Pierre, Parrion Bryant, Demarquise Drake, DeTayvion Wicker, Sa’mari Drake, Sparkle Roby; nieces, Adriane, Stephanie, Nekesha, Lekesha, Mahogany, Candace, Monica, Abryannna, Courtney, Sie’anna; nephews, Michael, Shakair, Sir, Belford, Devin, Zeon, Pride, Larry, Jalen, Derrick, Jerrick, Nicholas; uncle, James Henry Young, Sr.; special cousin, Cynthia Young; a host of other relatives and friends, including special friends, Anita Williams, Peggy Fleming, Denise Pierson, Mary Jackson, Sara Johnson, and Jeffann Barker.
