Betty Jean Stanford

Ms. Betty Jean (Mahomes) Stanford was born January 13, 1933, in Jackson, Tennessee, the daughter of Jessie and Lula Mae (Hunt) Mahomes. She was called into eternal peace on Friday, July 9, 2021, at the well-lived age of 88 years.

Betty was baptized at an early age at Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Jackson, Tennessee. Her final church home in Saginaw, Michigan was New Birth Baptist Cathedral under the leadership of Bishop Larry Camel. She was employed at General Motors Steering Gear for thirty plus years before retiring. Betty married Ezell Curry in Jackson, Tennessee. She later moved to Chicago, Illinois and years later married Mitchell Stanford. The two remained married for 28 years before parting ways; yet, they remained friends.

Her hobbies included bowling, bingo, cooking and spending time with her family. Her strong presence and wealth of wisdom will truly be missed.

Betty was preceded in death by one son, Ezell Curry; parents, Jessie and Lula Mahomes; great-granddaughter, Joy Murdock; sisters, Joanne Edmonson, Betty A. Kellogg, Mary Boone; brothers, A.C., Morris, Calvin, Joe Willie and Samuel Hart.

She leaves a lifetime of memories with one daughter, Marilyn Murdock; grandchildren, Sheila R. Curry, Corinne N., Fredric J., Katrina J., Quinrissa L. Murdock, Ezell Curry III; great-grandchildren, Ashley Curry, Diquiesha Curry, Kevin Champion Jr., Santana Goode, Jaire Goode, Desa Murdock, Kavi Bell, Boss Bell, Pierre Lewis, Nathaniel Murdock, Zara Bell; great-great-grandchildren, Jayla Curry, Karmello Wiley, DeAndre Wiley, Kori McClain, Amora Evans, Kaniah Champion, Enzo Murdock; sisters, Luvenia Doward, Evelyn Hart, Shirley Hart; brothers, William Mahomes, Silas Hart; aunt, Elisha Bell Hunt; sisters-in-law, Doris and Mattie Hart; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other loved ones and friends, including special friends, Eva Mae Morris, Allie Copes, and Mitchell Stanford.
